I developed C in February, though i think it could be just when i eat fodmaps but im not sure yet. And also due to being on dairy free diet now (anyone else cut out dairy and then struggled with C? and how did you cope?
Consultant told me to take Fybrogel but it has sweeteners in it (bad for gut) but i have psyllium husk powder, though that requires me to bake it into something, unless i could stir it into yhogurt as it says you can drink - would that be best?
But also a friend in the States who struggles with gut made comment about not wanting to take anymore fibre supplements to her naturopath or "her naturopath promising her that but then going back on it" but shes gone awol now so can't ask why she doesn't want to take any more fibre supplements?
I dont want to get hooked on something i can manage without by taking magnesium at the moment. Any advise or reason she would be against fibre supplements? I took some in my pancakes this morning (1/2 tsp) and so far ok, though when i measured it wrong 1 month ago and had slightly more than that i got diorrhea and was on loo 3x!
Thanks v much

Doh just answered my own question, started getting mild cramps later. I guess this is why people don't like fibre supplements? I will stick to magnesium, it seems to work, ive been going everyday anyway. And my gut transit time was 6 hours after dairy night before and 24hrs for same blue dye test! But i think its faster after dairy, i want to test again when blocked or forget to take magnesium pill.
Thanks for your comprehensive advise, i think you sent me this before too. C is a bit better now i'm taking magnesium, its still slow at some times of the month or if i miss a dose. I'm also taking chocolate chia pudding and passion fruit seeds with my soya yhogurt and that helps a lot but only make once or week or less and slows down in between. Recipe here: monashfodmap.com/recipe/veg...
Its delicious and I use less syrup than they say and heaped tbsp of cocoa.
Argh cramps back again after pysllium husk just now. Not nice! Dont think i'll use fibre or will try 1/4 tsp next time.
Thanks for the recipe. Unfortunately I am unable to tolerate any amount of cocoa powder since it gives me reflux and I am also a bit iffy with soy and dairy. Just goes to show how personal IBS is. I have to make up all kinds of weird recipes to work around my food intolerances. It would be great if they come up with something that will allow us to eat what we want - how amazing would that be?
Yeah hard to adapt recipes. I dont like being on the low fodmap diet, even though its helped my symptoms, i like food and i can't seem to adapt most recipes to not include garlic or onion as the taste isn't great, only stirfries. Need to try making curry i think. Hate bland food! Hopefully when they work out the microbiome research. Do you eat much dairy or red meat? (see my other post)
I want to try making injeera starter today as im on holiday but i dont get time to try new foods when im working, its too much planning.
I made a decision some years ago to not eat red meat and to eat only chicken and fish for general health reasons. I also never particularly enjoyed red meat. The dairy is due to it blocking me up.
Hello xjrs. I've noticed that you give a lot of advise to people, especially about aflorex and linoclotide, it would be interesting to hear your story and how your condition affects your life
Hi edwangy, good to hear from you. I am currently working on a website, which will explain my whole IBS journey including some of the mistakes I've made plus all the research I've conducted about it. I hope to publish that this year, though still working on some of the finer detail since I started it in 2019 and then got too busy with house moves, so I need to ensure the information is up to date.
Yeah pysllium husk. Just gave me cramps and go to loo a lot. I will try a smaller dose when I have nothing much planned i think, as was on loo too much. Tho i am worried im going less times in the day, than usual since cutting out dairy.
Thanks, i take probiotics and kefir already. Did find the naked date bars helpful. Going to try more seeds as chia helps but i always forget to put linseed on my dinner once its ready as it takes me so long to cook it, im a hurry to eat!
