Hi, would like to know what you all drink, I try to follow FODMAP, as best I can, but water loses its appeal after a while.

I drink decaf black coffee, also 2filter coffee per day

I drink green tea. It’s definitely an acquired taste but supposed to be beneficial ( caffeine free if possible) .

I also drink red bush tea .

As boring as water is I find it’s the best during a flare up.

I think Kefir drinks are meant to be good too.

I drink kefir, water, lactose free milk and an occasional bottle of beer.

I have 2 fairly mild strength black coffees ("3" strength, brewed from ground coffee) every morning. The first one, plus pottering about in the garden for a little while, does stimulate my bowels for a #2, but doesn't actually make my IBS worse. There is a stimulant effect, yet I can be normal on the loo.

I have worked out over the past 4 + years that coffee doesn't trigger my IBS. as such, and I do like it.

Thereafter, I drink bottled water. Now I like sparkling water and again, that's odd because sparkling water doesn't ever trigger my IBS either. It does for many people.

About 4pm I have a cup of Earl Grey tea without milk or sweetenings, made from loose leaf tea and brewed in a teapot. Sometimes I have 2 cups. I just like that too.

Before dinner I have a small shot of vodka with some honey stirred into it.

After that, just water.

Then at 10pm or 10.30 I have another cup of tea.

I have worked out that all these drinks seem to have no influence on my IBS at all. I can go for weeks quite normal with my IBS while still drinking the same things, and so I can't connect my usual habits to anything that happens with my IBS.

But I think I might be unusual, as the drinks I can have quite happily would not suit everyone.

(Yet if I eat carrots, or some other veggies, or fruits when the "wind is in the wrong direction", I might have a bit more of a frisky time on the toilet in the morning!)

Coffee with and without caffeine and water. I used to drink lactose free semi skimmed milk too but because of the fat I stopped taking it because it felt like it made my symptoms a bit worse. Do take calcium tablets though. Might try it again in a short while, the lactose free milk. When I have to travel for a couple of hours in my car I take water mixed with 'isotonic sports drink' powder (carbohydrates and essential minerals) with me but don't eat. I'm always thirsty, have a chronic dry mouth. Talked with my GP about the chronic dry mouth, also because of the fact that a new dentist did notice it. Because the recent blood work is okay there isn't much he can do. The mouth is the start of the gastrointestinal tract so it could be all related with my functional bowel problems 🤔.

That's interesting, Meleber. I occasionally have an awful dry mouth first thing in the morning, even though I have taken on enough hydration during the day and evening, and apparently am at optimum levels of hydration according to a chart I once saw where everything I drank was listed. I often wonder if I lie with my mouth open during sleep. Though I have no memory of any sleep disturbance, or breathing difficulties which wake me. I wake in the morning with good breathing and no nasal obstruction.

Sometimes having a dry mouth can be connected to how loose my stools are that morning. If I'm a bit loose. I might get a dry mouth. If normal, I don't. It could perhaps be something to do with how well the colon is absorbing water.

I have one cup of tea a day made with vanilla flavour soy milk. The rest of the day I only drink water. I have tried flavoured wayer like Volvic and they are nice but the acetic acid in them gives me acid stomach. If you can tolerate coffee then you'd probably be okay with them.

I tried a bottle of Volvic flavoured water recently, and it absolutely ruined me, so I would not recommend that one.

Decaff coffee with oat milk, - strangely oat milk is not a low fodmap item but as I only have 2 or 3 a day it doesnt seem to matter and I like it better than ordinary milk and any of the other substitute 'milks.' Very weak tea.(ordinary and earl grey) Lemon ginger and peppermint tea bags. Some fruit teas are palatable. A ginger, lemon, honey syrup with either hot or cold water. Occasional fruit smoothie. Occasional lassi. Occasional cider or beer but I think they can cause upsets, 1 glass seems to be ok. Wine is ok up to 3 glasses. Occasional fruit juices, according to what fruit you can handle.

Actual fruit can be a substitute for water but not more than 3 a day.

By occasional my preference is about twice a month, I have trouble keeping up with the recommended quantities of water also.

Thanks for that, was wondering about the Zero alcohol lagers

I'm surprised you can tolerate cider or wine. Apples are a big no no on the fodmap. Beer is out too. Anything fizzy is also out. Fruit teas are also an irritant for IBS honey is also bad for IBS. Grapes are only suggested as 6 per day. Also peppermint is also now considered and irritant to the gut. I can't have it.

I'd examine what the ingredients are; could have sugar substitutes which can be worse for you than sugar. Also the fizziness can cause gas and bloating.

I never drink just water I find it makes me feel sick after a small glass but I live off copious cups of herbal tea and I drink about 1ltr of unsweetened almond milk everyday which more than fulfils my fluid intake requirements and I’ve never found drinks upset my guts but I do live off decaf fluids I don’t have any caffeine or carbonated drinks but it’s best to drink whatever you enjoy xx

I've found it almost impossible to drink real coffee since my third Covid booster shot. I drink decaf lattes, which generally irritate my guts, especially in the morning, but I keep supplies of loperamide and electrolyte packages with me at all times. I'd probably have infinitely less diarrhea without the decaf lattes but you only live once....

I make a jug of herbal teas like peppermint, chamomile, hibiscus or fennel and drink it when cooled in the fridge. No sugar added, of course. I also drink almond milk in small amounts, sometimes hemp milk. In addition to water, that seems to give me enough options to hydrate.

I would not drink sparkling water but I have Tesco still flavoured water for chuldren. The Apple and Raspberry is nice. It isn’t a juice it is clear water with a slight flavour. They are with the children’s drinks and are nice small bottles and usually on offer.

Hope this helps.

I drink decaf tea and coffee with milk. More tea than coffee. First cup of the day is peppermint tea. I try to drink lots of water too and occasionally diluted cranberry juice / pineapple juice. Sometimes lemon / lime cordial / squash but not much.

To be honest my IBS is always worse in the mornings.

I don’t drink much alcohol, occasionally wine or vodka & tonic. Beer I’m not sure about yet, still trying to figure it out. Bloats me I think.

I find tea (with soya milk) or instant coffee (or those instant coffee sachets with the milk and sugar included) is ok for me. However, filter coffee or ground coffee makes my digestive system go a little crazy!

In the evenings, I will drink hot water and chamomile tea, and I have no bad effects from this. I have heard peppermint tea is good!

Sometimes I drink fruit juices or soft drinks if it is a hot day, but usually at room temp as cold drinks make my stomach cramp.

I frankly don't know what to drink. My first choice would always be tea with milk, but tea causes bladder twitching so I try to limit it. I hate water unless its ice cold, or hot. Tepid water is foul. I'm not a fan of coffee. Fizzy drinks create gas. I'm on holiday atm and fed up of all the restrictions, trying a rum cocktail right now.
