Over-the-counter protein supplement resulting in impaired thyroxine absorption in a hypothyroid patient
Since the only factor which could have contributed to the deranged TSH levels was the recent introduction of the
whey
protein
supplement, we advised her to stop the protein supplement while continuing the same dose of L-thyroxine.

Understanding your blood test
Hi all, Happy New Year etc! I have finally managed to translate my blood test results and for anyone else out there who is also bemused, I am attaching a guide to help you understand the basics. Ranges are often slightly different, or expressed differently in different countries or even clinics but really

creatine ?
I have a question please - have tried, but without success to find an answer : I have a good eGFR result, but my creatine is high - I am sticking to a low protein diet which has helped raise my eGFR but has no affect on my high creatine level? What can I do to bring my creatine level down ? Also,

Hi everyone, Thank you again so much for your input on my last post (https://healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk/posts/147096003/results-advice-please). I now have an update. I told my doctor when I saw him that I seem to have most of the symptoms of Hashimoto's and that my mum and cousin have this and asked

Parkinson’s Disease: A Systemic Inflammatory Disease Accompanied by Bacterial Inflammagens 2019
Somebody was speculating that the frozen shoulder PWP suffer from may not be the inflammation type of frozen shoulder that most people suffer from. An important point as, if not caused by inflammation, then the idea that PD is driven by inflammation and we should all be trying to reduce inflammation

Possible Borderline Hypothyroidism
Hi, I am new to this forum but after test results reading all I can. After not feeling well for a couple of years after a major op I asked my GP for an iron test. Iron was fine, but she also tested for thyroid which I have never had before. Reading other posts and articles, it looks like I could

Protein Shakes.. Are they safe for the Liver and Kidneys?
I joined a gym today and was wondering if it is safe to have a
whey
protein
shake after workouts? Will it put extra strain on my liver? Anyone with experience , can you please shed some light on the topic and maybe also share what brand of shakes they are having! Thanks in Advance!

How do we assemble our cumulative CKD knowledge so that it's a) digestible and b) easily accessible to all?
An impossible task (especially with the HealthUnlocked format) but it seems there's great knowledge out here amongst us .. but no way to assemble it in an easily accessible place. We seem doomed to repeating ourselves and having useful information 'slip down the page' and out of view. How on earth

PC History
A conditioned hardcore athlete, at the age of 59 I had Da Vinci surgery in 2010 with Gleason 4+3=7, PSA 9. Post surgical biopsy showed all margins clear with no seminal vesicle involvement. I had no incontinence and an active sex life for ten years when cancer suddenly went active again with PSA rising

It’s been 6 days and I still have headaches. Today he upped it to 40mg to get the inflammation under control. Both sed

Discussion: Vascular Calcification / bone disorder in CKD
Mortality in CKD is dominated by the cardiovascular domain. We will more likely die of a cardio related issue than anything else. We are the highest risk group of all groups for cardio related death. Death for cardio reasons is more likely than our progressing to end stages of the disease: "Expressed

Proton therapy vs IMRT?
Looked at studies - seem inconclusive as to any advantage for one over other. Some indications PT may have less side effects, maybe? Local radiation folks (Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) say have seen slightly more rectal bleeding from PT. Thoughts?

Prostate Cancer Care With No Rectum
First post here. This blog is somewhat intimidating; I'm in awe of members' knowledge of PCa treatments, and of all the abbreviations sprinkled throughout. I'm 78 years old, being treated at MSK--now on 4 months of Orgovyx; awaiting 20 proton treatments in NY in December. My journey started this spring

Return of PMR?
I was able to get down to 0 Prednisone after 28 months. It was my third attempt. Every was good until about a week ago (4 weeks since last Prednisone) when I started having morning shoulder pain and stiffness. It was gotten progressively worse, and now involves hips and knees. I was also on .4ml MTX
