Hello,I did email a Centre recently who offer this and their response was “Typically, proton beam therapy is most beneficial for diagnoses that have not spread beyond the primary site of disease”. However, they also added that each person would need to be individually assessed to make a proper decision. maybe check with your team or oncologist to see what they say?

All the best x

Thanks for that info mrs eddie. My cancer has spread to lymph nodes in my chest but I will ask my team when I next see them on 15th Feb. You know how it is looking for the big cure!! Mags

Hi magstherunner

Radiotherapy in non small cell lung cancer can be used if surgery is not possible and the cancer has not spread elsewhere, as a follow up from surgery (adjuvant) or to relieve symptoms (palliative).

This link will take you directly to our booklet on radiotherapy where it explains the different types: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

Proton beam therapy can be used if the cancer has not spread, however your oncology team will be able to advise on what treatment will provide the best outcome for you.

There are other treatments that you may be offered, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted therapies. Immunotherapy and targeted therapies are only effective if you have certain cell mutations/proteins present from your biopsy. This link will take you to the information on the treatments for lung cancer: roycastle.org/help-and-supp...

If you would like to discuss anything you can either email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600.

All the best

Thank you for the information, sounds like proton might not be appropriate as the cancer is also in lymph nodes in my chest. Chemo and Immunotherapy have stopped working after 20 months and I'm waiting to hear if any new mutations have shown up that can be targeted. If not I think the plan is for more aggressive chemo which I'm not looking forward to!! I see my oncologist on 15th Feb so hoping for good news then. Thanks again. Mags.
