Holding off statins challenge 🙄
Hi...happy new year🥰 My annual check showed my nhs cholesterol level at 13 whatever that means but should be under 10 so I said I will seriously try to lower this myself as statins buggered my leg muscles up. Given me 6 months and if not lower suggest I try a different one, which I really don’t want

Prescribing cascade
Although not directly applicable to PMR/GCA probably a lot of us may have this happen to us. Consider, for example, a man in his late seventies, fit and active, “routinely prescribed” (like so many of his age group) a cholesterol lowering statin. Two months later, he consults his doctor with muscular

Bad reaction to Atorvastatin
I had triple heart bypass last June. I was put on the usual medication including 80mg atorvastatin. After about 3 months it was discovered that my liver counts were through the roof. I was taken off statins. Very worrying time. After more than 2 months the counts had fallen back to within the normal

Query re 1st annual review
Am coming up to 1st anniversary of HA in new year & expect to have a medication review with GP & associated blood tests. What blood tests should I expect apart from cholesterol? - Liver? Kidneys? Sugar? On the usual cocktail of aspirin, anti-platelets ( which will stop) betablockers, statins & blood

3 years ago I was taken into Urgencias (this is Malaga, Spain) with about 10 minutes to go and it was first suspected that I was having a heart attack but in fact I was suffering an arrythmia, with a heart rate of 230 (for 3 hours). I was addmitted, and after 15 days in the cardiac ward of Universidad

Cholesterol / LDL issues.
I have a close 63 year old female friend with Fibromylagia. She also has elevated cholesterol and LDL. She cannot take statins, because they crank the pain threshold considerably. She also suffers from cool/cold temperatures that a person without the disease could easily tolerate. Any thoughts out there

Statins???
Hi I have a question I'm hoping some of you might have an opinion on. I have SLE autoimmune hepatitis and arthritis. My rheumatologist has written to me GP suggesting I take statins giving no reason for this. Blood pressure is normal never had a problem with it. Colesteral is fine. I'm reluctant to

The Drug Blame Game
Now I have been a forum member for a few months I have to admit there are two types of post that bemuse me! The first is "I have symptom X, could it be drug Y I was recently perscribed?" Statins and the beta blocker Bisoprolol are the most frequent, where people seem to expect (even want) side effects
