A conundrum for use v. non-use of specific amino acids in muscle atrophy and immune support for CLL patients
CLL and cancer patients, particularly those over 70, are often concerned about muscle wasting or muscle atrophy. Sarcopenia is characterized as the progressive loss of muscle mass that is typically associated with aging. These patients are frequently advised to increase their intake of dietary proteins

ore details on degarelix (Firmagon)
After a single dose (120 mg) of degarelix to support my ST-ADT in conjunction with pelvic lymph node IMRT, my Testosterone level is castrate (>20 ng/dl). I added this as estradiol patches were slow to get there (T = 63 after 2 weeks). And I am feeling surprisingly good as previously reported with no

D-dimer, Radiation & Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation [DIC]
New study below [1]. I have a number of old posts on coagulation/nattokinase /D-dimer. Cancer increases the risk of life-threatening coagulation, as well as metastasis. Nattokinase, which can dissolve the fibrin in clots, is thought by many men to be protective, but I suspect that most simply take

Hello to all from someone with RP, ADT, and IMRT
I just wanted to introduce myself. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February of 2016 when my PSA rose to 10.6. I was GS 7 (4+3) and aggressive treatment was recommended. I chose RP and had surgery in April '16. The pathology report showed an extra-prostatic extension, but negative margins

It's never too late
Smoking was killing me, and on top of that I was paying a fortune to have a slow suicide, well thank God I was able to stop 12 years ago. Since then my life changed so much, I did put extra weight on but more about that later. Before I stopped smoking I was smoking 180 cigarettes a week, which I couldn't

Can I come off Ramipril once started?
Can I come off Ramipril once started? I went to the doctors today for another reason but had my blood pressure checked too and it was high, Not for the first time. I’m very overweight. The doctor has put me in Ramipril 1.25 today. I am very ready to go on a diet and came back from a 2 week holiday yesterday

Wheat vs. Chaff
I think it's fair to say that the field of nutrition has a surplus of charlatans, cranks, and snake-oil salesmen. Weightloss (when you get it right) really isn't difficult, but a multi-billion dollar industry relies on making people think that it is. If you don't have a degree in biochemistry, how do

Good news
Quick history: dx 10/17, metastatic stage 4 with large tumor in the pelvis. Had docetaxel, Lupron and Zytiga. PSA went form 34 to undetectable in 4 months. Convinced the oncologist that I was oligometastatic That led to 42 sessions of IMRT in summer of 2018. Insurance did not pay, saying local treatment

NHS done good by me.
Because I was unable to control my cholesterol within acceptable levels and most of the bad stuff was made within my body, I've been given a self injection drug called Praluent 150 mg. I inject every 14 days. It works extremely well and my lipids are now well within range of good. The only downside is

svt and high bp
this is third time I have svt/a fib episode within ten days. each time I noted high bp ranging from 149/95 to 156/96. is the high bp main cause of these episodes or high bp was due to these episodes? I don't know. I take bp medicines and sometimes these medicines bring my heart rate to normal range shortly

Flawed cholesterol study makes headlines
"A controversial study has argued that if you have a high LDL (bad) cholesterol level when you are aged over 60, you will live longer, there is no increased risk of cardiovascular disease and that statins will have little effect. But can we trust these bold claims?" >> My personal lived experience

Spontaneous bleeding on humira
I had an embarrassing moment at my Hairdresser's. I got what I thought to be a pimple on my nose a week ago-- it's healed up and just became just a bit of flat mark. I took the Humira shot today, went to go get my hair done but in the middle of speaking the spot, which looks just like a dark patch
