It's never too late

Smoking was killing me, and on top of that I was paying a fortune to have a slow suicide, well thank God I was able to stop 12 years ago. Since then my life changed so much, I did put extra weight on but more about that later. Before I stopped smoking I was smoking 180 cigarettes a week, which I couldn't afford so as a result of this I was in debt with very little options. How things changed I now have all the latest gadgets all paid for by cash I have thousands in the bank and I recently bought my self a jaguar car and that is something I always dreamed of it's not new but I bought it with cash. I don't need to decorate very often, I and my clothes don't stink of smoke, I have achieved this although only on a good state pension because I no longer smoke.

There should be more nutrition education for our children and adults the prevalence of obesity and the increase of diabetes 2 and its complications is frightening and eating healthy unprocessed food would make so much difference to everyone's health.

I had diabetes 2 and was overweight at the age of 68 my diabetic nurse told me the Metformin was not having the desired effect to bring my blood sugar down and they were considering putting me on insulin injections this frightened me.

So after doing quite a bit of research online I came across stories of people reversing they're diabetes by going on a low carb high-fat lifestyle, well it worked for me I lost 6 stone = 84lbs and I am no longer on meds my diabetes has gone and my blood sugar is normal I am now nearly 72.

It makes me mad that the dietary advice has been wrong in so many areas instead of keeping us healthy it's been killing us and still is, did you know 1 slice of bread has up to 18 carbs which are = to 4 Tsp of sugar I didn't.

Fruit is suggested as healthy well all the berry family is a quite low carb but a banana is a high carb fruit, so can I suggest you read the labels of the food you buy and low-fat = more sugar to make it palatable I learned so much on the website dietdoctor.com/ and there is also loads of information on YouTube, processed food is a no make your food from scratch and live longer.

What a great story, viv0147, well done you!

I'd be interested to hear what your diabetic nurse thought about your progress, and whether they'll be passing on your advice to others

The nurse and the doctor were very impressed by the turnaround of my diabetes, I explained how I managed to do it. What they did with that knowledge I don't know

Over to them, then :)

For 72, you look in great shape. Absolutely incredible that you've turned your health around in less than 4 years. I generally tell people that LCHF isn't some sort of miracle cure, but in your case it obviously was!

Unfortunately people are educated from a young age about diet ... and as you've discovered, they're taught a load of old cobblers. It gives me high blood pressure thinking about medical professionals (eg., your diabetic nurse) handing out superstitions to their patients instead of fact-based advice. There must be literally millions of people in the UK in complete despair thinking, "I'm doing everything right - why am I still fat and ill?"

Anyway, well done for taking control and achieving such a great result. Hope you'll stick around and show the newbies what's possible!
