Dialysis experience

Should I do only kidney or pancreas as well?
I have been listed recently in august for kidney and pancreas transplant. I am type 2 diabetic and not on dialysis yet. I was not aware if my transplant doctor would list me for pancreas. I am not sure if I should go for pancreas transplant or keep only kidney. Having both increases risk? Any advise

Hair Loss
Hi everyone, I have been on dialysis for 9 months. I am on the registry for a liver and kidney transplant. Along with other symptoms that so many of us suffer from, it is devastating that I have lost half of my hair : (( This started about 6 months into dialysis. Thyroid issues have been ruled out

Bad breath and taste
Hi! I'm stage 4, GFR 20-24, BUN 34. About 2 weeks ago I started getting the ammonia breath I've heard about and my mouth always has a bad taste...almost rotten taste like garbage. My tongue even burns a bit. My dentist says my teeth are fine. My neph says I shouldn't have this until stage 5, but I

Bio-artificial kidney
Hello everyone I hope you're doing good. 😊 Do you think this permanent cure (bio-artificial kidney) is possible anytime soon? It's supposed to replace dialysis and even kidney transplant. I know the concept has been around for a few years now and didn't get anywhere for various reasons, but it seems

Non covid respiratory failure *update*
So 18 days ago I wrote on here to say my husband had tried to end his life. As a consequence of that he ended up on ICU sedated and on a ventilator. The Dr's were struggling to keep his Sat's up. He required high levels of oxygen and high pressure from the ventilator for almost 4 weeks. His kidneys

Acute kidney injury , worried!!
Hi all, my brother has been found to have thromobotic microangiopathy (on kidney biopsy) secondary to APS and likely complement dysregulation. He is on dialysis and plasma exchange. Doctors are saying the kidney injury is reversible but will take time. Anyone can throw some light on what to expect as

How we grow and empathise through shared story
It's UK Kidney Week #UKKW2021 which really means there happens to be a big virtual conference happening in the renal community this week. I'm thrilled to be part of the conversation in self care with a brilliant human chairing, Dr Kate Bramham, on Friday. Kate was the on ward consultant last September

Lonely
I have mentioned previously the anxiety that visits me daily. Every twinge of the abdomen while healing , feeling wired everyday, the shaking hands making everything taking a little longer to accomplish, the jitters in my legs causing me to feel unstable on my feet. And you all know, that's just less

14 days and still fighting.
Hi all, I wrote on here 9 days ago as my dad was in an induced coma. He did try slightly to wake up but wasn't any response, doctors sent him for an MRI scan which revealed his kidneys had failed as he wasn't urinating or responding due to complications on his stomach, they believe whilst he was trying
