Thalassaemia

I will be 9 weeks 5 days and according to the NHS website I should be having sickle cell and thalassaemia screening alongside things like blood pressure tests etc? Is it normal for the first appointment to be a telephone one? It's my first pregnancy so a bit anxious about it all.

2 I am a Thalassaemia carrier, have small blood cells / slightly anaemic as a result, and is at odds with +IF that causes large blood cells so my RBC haemoglobin level is lower than the low range is there a link or any studies between the two diseases (+IF, low B12, thalassaemia carrier) ?

Anyone with thalassaemia here that suffers.from ectopics? I'm at wots end from 6 yrs later I have ectopics, I have low iron drs said its fine , removed thyroid dra said levels are fine and years of monthly blood tests im unsure and want the ectopics gone!!

Hi, When we were at guys prof Harrison mentioned a link between having a celtic background & mild thalassaemia. Does anyone have this? We had genetic tests done & I suppose this will show it up

My hematologist wont let me have iron because I am a carrier of thalassaemia. Full iron panel done shows everything normal. I have the report. Nothing that I can say is low or bad. Iron supplements are bad for thalassaemia carriers. thank you

I have also read on here that my ferritin would benefit from being higher, however as I have beta thalassaemia minor I cannot take iron tablets. I will see what the doctor suggest and ask them to take advice from a haematologist but as I'm currently will be unlikely to get a referral to one.
