Just had a phone call from my hospital to say my first appointment will be over the phone?
I will be 9 weeks 5 days and according to the NHS website I should be having sickle cell and thalassaemia screening alongside things like blood pressure tests etc?
Is it normal for the first appointment to be a telephone one? It's my first pregnancy so a bit anxious about it all.
Just want to make sure all tests are done when they need to be. Already pushing it with my dating scan which is 2 days before I am 13 weeks.
Thanks

Yes totally normal, both of mine were telephone at 10 and 8 weeks. Midwife told me to make an appt with the surgery for the blood test. First in person with her was 16 weeks. You’re unlikely to get pre-eclampsia (hypertension) in the first trimester but if you’re worried about your BP tell your midwife xx
mine was initially by phone due to staffing issues and then went in the following day to do my bloods etc. may be something similar to you but best to check as for each of my pregnancies I had bloods done initially at the booking appointment
With my first (back in 2020) all those appointments were face to face but with my second (2022) I didn’t physically see a midwife until my 23 week appointment and my first scan was just after 14 weeks (which meant the baby was too big to do some of the measurement tests) and my first lot of bloods was done at my first scan also. Personally I thought it was terrible everything being over the phone but shrugged it off with it being my second. I would just make sure you have everything planned of what you want to ask over the phone and if you ever feel like you need to see someone face to face just ask to see what they can do. It seems different health boards run things so differently to the next! Good luck though, I hope everything goes smoothly for you x
Morning, I had a over the phone appointment with my midwife then a week later I went in to see her to do my height, weight, BP, urine check and booking in Bloods don't see her again now until 18 weeks so that's 8 weeks away 😏 xx
