GUT HEALTH - here is the latest scientific consensus regarding an unpalatable but increasingly important subject:
Less than 50 g stool was transplanted in 25 (45%) of 55 studies per attempt, and of 83 studies that published administration route, 48 (58%) reported via
sigmoidoscopy
or colonoscopy.

Ill and scared
To get a diagnosis seemed to take forever and i didn't undergo a colonoscopy until Jan 2010 although did have a
sigmoidoscopy
which was clear. Finally advised had mild diverticula disease. By this time I was feeling horribly ill and had to give up work.

Feel like giving up but it's only getting worse
Also had a flexible
sigmoidoscopy
which came back clear (in fact I was complimented during the procedure which was very odd!). I was told by the gynecologist when I was about 20 that I should just stay on the pill and they would check further if there was anything wrong when it came to conceiving.

Sigmoidoscopy
I am due to have a
sigmoidoscopy
next week, I have been sent the enema to use at home before I leave for the hospital, can someone tell me if I am likely to need the toilet on the way. My IBS is worsened by stress so I'm thinking my bowels are not going to behave just because I have had a enema.

Colorectal polyps
My 27 year old son had a
sigmoidoscopy
today after years of digestive troubles. 3 polyps were found and sent for biopsy. He has been told he will probably need to have a colonoscopy. He is very anxious. Does anybody have experience of colorectal polyps in younger patients?

Sigmoidoscopy Update
Hello everyone, So I've had the
sigmoidoscopy
today but there were some things that quizzed me and the nurses. They asked for my story before going in for the procedure and as I explained the A&E situation they were puzzled why I was referred for a
sigmoidoscopy
as it only sees part of the bowel.

Sigmoidoscopy this week
Finally after being in A&E just before Christmas I've got a
sigmoidoscopy
for the end of the week. When the team at ambulatory care said potential IBD I was unsure when the gastroenterologist requested a
sigmoidoscopy
rather than a colonoscopy is this procedure what is used to diagnose IBD?

Colonoscopy: nothing to fear from the ‘silver stallion’
Researchers followed 170,034 people for a median 17.1 years, some screened once with
sigmoidoscopy

i'm new here... please help
I had been diagnosed with IBS and am waiting for another
sigmoidoscopy
. I was trialed on medication once, which didn't work. I get anal fissures almost everyday and the pain and embarrassment is getting too much. How long have others had to wait to get treatment started?

what sort of specialist is best?
During that time I`ve had a colonoscopy, MRI and
sigmoidoscopy
- all overseen by colo-rectal surgeons who lose interest when they can`t find anything that can be rectified by surgery. I`ve now been passed back to the care of my GP and am wondering if it worth asking to see a gatro-enterologist.
