I am due to have a sigmoidoscopy next week, I have been sent the enema to use at home before I leave for the hospital, can someone tell me if I am likely to need the toilet on the way.
My IBS is worsened by stress so I'm thinking my bowels are not going to behave just because I have had a enema.
Also any thoughts on sedation.

Hiya, I'm not sure about the effects of an enema. I had a sigmoidoscopy last weekend and I was given strong laxatives(moviprep) to start taking from teatime the night before. The effects was quite immediate and strong but also was still quite effective up until the next day until10 mind before the procedure. Also you don't have to be sedated of that's not what you want, it depends on your pain tolerance and how much you can take. The first time I had it done I had gas and air(entinox) the second time I was in agony so I was sedated. Hope everything goes okay for you. Good luck xx
Thank you for your reply, I was expecting to have to take a prep the night before,as I have done in the past.I was surprised the enema can be done before leaving for the hospital.
