Thoughts about Xarelto and APS
I was put on to Xarelto in Hospital after an unprovoked jugular vein DVT. Initially treated with heparin. As it turned out I eventually tested positive twice to the drvvt test so APS confirmed. At the same time diagnosed with SLE due to other issues My thoughts are that warfarin treats other symptoms

Worried wife
My husband was diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs yesterday (unprovoked). He was admitted to hospital where they have started him on heparin. He's been okay in himself except for being breathless for the last few days. (We thought it might be a chest infection) After being in a coma two years ago

Hi I saw a rheumatologist yesterday as I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my arms, legs and face and complex migraines. I was diagnosed with APS in 2011 due to me miscarrying whilst going through IVF. The cardiolipin antibodies are 194.2 in my most recent blood test, in 2012 they were

Advice please ? I just want to be prepared for when I am pregnant!
Hi just so you know I'm still trying to get pregnant but I'm bit confused as my sister in law had just given birth and during she had epidural which can cause blood clots. The reason I'm confused is because I have Polycystic ovaries and have two copy of the factor v Leiden gene and asthma so what would

Itchy skin
Also on Acyclovir and
septrin
as preventative doses. My problem is over the last week my skin is itchy and pin prickly although there is no sign of a rash or soreness, not changes to soap or washing powder . I had shingles about 6 years ago but no sign of it now. Has anyone else had this problem.

Update, sadly not what I'd hoped.
Hi again, I posted a few weeks back to say I was expecting again but sadly I had a scan at 9 weeks and the pregnancy had not developed beyond 6.5 weeks. This could be genetic or down to dodgy blood flow. I'm thinking the latter as this is pregnancy number 5! I've been re-referred to the specialist haematologist

My brain (or lack)
I've had a bad few weeks with brain fog. I saw both Haematologist and Rheumy today and explained that I had a small surgery about 3 weeks ago so had to stop the Rivaroxaban 48hours before and start 12 hours after. (I had a couple of Clexane shots but had to stop them on day of surgery) I keep not

Help with specialist consult - doctors confounded in U.S
I'm new to this blog. Thank you so much to the creators and participants. I've been looking through questions and answers about APS specialtists in the U.S. Is there anything like the Huhes Center in the U.S. Even the premier academic medical centers and the Mayo clinic seem confounded about APS.

Here we go again.
Hi everyone, it's been quite a while since I last posted. I had a baby just over two years ago after several losses, late and early. That's when I was diagnosed. We have decided to try to add to our family and I'm now pregnant again - only 6 weeks. I took aspirin when trying to conceive as I can only

Life Gets Tough
My husband is still in the hospital 2 months now and it seems like he's wasting away. He is smaller than he ever was in life and he isn't a very big man. I want him out of there it bothers me when they have to stop feeding or halt the heparin for his echo to do procedures or surgeries. He wants to

Brittle APS?
Hi all, I'm new here. I was diagnosed with Hughes syndrome and pulmonary hypertension 2 years ago after almost a year in hospital and numerous operations to remove blood clots. One of my specialists recently spoke about changing me from Warfarin to Riveraxeban. As my INR has never been stable. My target

Finally ablated
Well, just got back from MRI where I had a PvI ablation. I had the choice of RF or cryo and it's a Blooming good job I had RF. My upper left pulmonary vein has difficult anatomy so some creative ablating was performed. I'm not saying cryo wouldn't have done the job but I think artistic licence is able

Heparin and IVF
I have seen quite a few posts recently about heparin and its use in pregnancy. Heparin has been used for some time for pregnancies so this isn't really new but I saw this article about heparin and IVF pregnancies, which may be of interest. It seems there is a gene that both men and women can carry that

I AM NOT SERONEGATIVE!
So it has taken me 3 ½ years and nearly 2000 miles to finally be diagnosed and treated, despite going the best hospitals in NYC. I went to see Dr. Jill Schofield in Denver, CO this spring. As some of you know who have read my earlier posts, I became severely ill in the end of 2012. After 3 weeks of

Not as bad as I thought
It struck me this morning that a year ago I had just had a bad AF episode (well, bad compared to the previous 7 years since diagnosis of paroxysmal AF) and was off work while my newly prescribed warfarin dosage was being sorted out. My tummy was soon a patchwork of huge dark bruises from the heparin

Professor Graham Hughes Monthly Blog June 2016
Monthly Blog June Beating the Illness June has been a mixed month; some sunny days – lots of cold days, inches of rain. It looks as if Paris got even more than we did. Recently, I had a visit from a group of Russian doctors, interested in learning more about Hughes syndrome. It was, for me, a most

My Story
Hello, I am new to this site but realise now that I might need the support and help of fellow sufferers of Lymphoedema. When I was 30 years old in 1982 I had testicular cancer and following an orchidectomy I was told the histology showed I had a seminoma and after 3 weeks of radiotherapy on my abdomen
