Medications and Sweets Syndrome
My wife has become my advocate after the last episode in hospital back in May. It was just to be a 4 hr stay. I was given heparin to before the procedure to prevent clotting as one had formed where the hole in the heart was being repaired. Unfortunetly the heparin caused the Sweets to rear its ugly head

We are new to this site and hope to find some answers thru researching. My husband was diagnosed in 2010 after extensive testing.
We live in British Columbia, Canada and at this point in time have heard of only 1 other case here. At our local Hospital he is "N of 1". There is no expert and it just keeps getting worse. I believe it was triggered by a very bad cold/flu in March 2010. At first it looked like the measles and it didn't

Hi all, I’m Sheena, I’ve been a member of this forum since it’s early days and was for a few years an administrator, unfortunately due to health issues, a crazy life (running a pub). and losing both my parents in the last 18 months, I had to take a step back. Expecting to be looking after my parents

TSH suppressed = Blood Clots? 3 clots in 3 months after starting thyroid meds (t3/t4). What to do?
Hello all. I have been on a t3/t4 regime for 3 months now. Doses are 125mcgs (t4) & 25 mcgs (t3). I'm a 30 yr old male, very active physically and weigh around 200lbs with a muscular frame. This is a long post about a situation that isn't common. If you want a quick summary of this post, please go to

Established Diagnosis of Myelofibrosis
Well, after months of not really knowing, my beautiful wife Joyce has a confirmed diagnosis. Her BMB taken 24 days ago quote "shows early changes, with reticulin fibrosis of her bone marrow, but lots of normal haemopoiesis still remains" She really is doing remarkably well, considering what she has been

Which alternative to warfarine?
Had my appointment with the cardiologist yesterday. It was a very productive meeting. As you all know I need a couple of operations. So he is making it clear to all concerned with my welfare, that I need heparin injections while they stop the warfarine prior to the ops. Also my potassium and Sodium levels

Prof. Hughes August Blog
Professor Graham R V Hughes MD FRCP At last a summer to remember. August – at least here in Kent, was hot and sunny. The pleasure boats on the Thames were full. London a town of tourists. Each month, arthritis doctors receive a magazine called “The Rheumatologist”. This popular American magazine

Post ablation
Well today (or should I say yesterday as it’s now after midnight) I headed into the cath lab today for the 4th time. Hopefully it’s 4th time lucky. My first two ablations were for SVT (which were unsuccessful). And today was “take 2” of the ablation they were supposed to do six weeks ago for AFib and

Hello 😊 I had a heart attack last year and a dvt when on heparin during pregnancy. I've been on rivaroxaban and clopidogrel since but have started around 6 months ago getting severe pain in certain finger tips and toes to the point where my finger tips are discolouring and going purple. It feels like

Lovenox or Coumadin?? Please help
Dad (NSCLC adeno stage IV with SVC syndrome - stable disease) has been in hospital since Friday because they finally found the blood clot I suspected. He has a 4-5 inch long blood clot just outside of his heart above the right atrium extending into the collarbone area. They cannot do anything surgically

Professor Graham RV Hughes Blog: June 2018
What a month! After such a gloomy and wet spring, all is forgiven. June has been stunning. Blue skies ever since the Royal Wedding, with temperatures in the 80’s. The countryside glorious and London looking its very best. On the home front, our new educational charity is now finally getting into

Metaject - disposal on holiday?
I have a very large disposal bin for the metaject sharps which I wouldn’t want to take on holiday. What do people do? Thanks. I’ve preciously travelled with heparin injections but each had its own safe case so it wasn’t an issue. I will need to use two metaject pens while away

Seeing hemo today, still no word from France, Wife's dropping off a cliff since Monday.
For those who remember, my wife was partially diagnosed in France with an MPN after she ruptured her, what was enlarged spleen on may 1st. We finally got back to Wales 16 days ago, we saw a doctor that Monday too. She continued on the French meds up until Friday when the heparin ran out. The GP said
