Rasagiline or Selegiline?
I was diagnosed with PD eight months ago and was put on sinemet (12.5/50) three tablets 3 times daily. I still have some tremor and other problems. My worst are painful muscles when walking. Today I saw a new Parkinson's Nurse and she suggested that an MAO-B inhibitor might suit me better ie Rasagiline

Less is more when it comes to my pills
Thanks to new thinking by some medical authorities regarding statins and blood pressure meds for us old folks, I'm now taking only one prescription medication – – carbidopa levodopa. And only three over-the-counter pills – – Vitamin D-3, curcumin and 5-HTP. For details, see http://bit.ly/1HxzXZA.

Anyone with a relative with CLL or SLL?
Bit of a dark question. Those of us with Hashi's - or "borderline Hashi's" as my GP likes to call it - have chronic lymphocytic thyroditis, right? And there is an association, not huge, with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. My brother has chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Both of our ailments are probably genetic

'MENS' (magneto-electric nanoparticles) - the next gen of DBS?
Excerpt: "With a magnet placed over the head of each subject animal, the particles were pulled through the blood-brain barrier, where they “coupled” the externally created magnetic field with the brain’s intrinsic electric field. This enabled researchers to wirelessly connect their computers and electronics

Cortisol high level how to lower, how to reduce, risks and danger by Ray Sahelian, M.D.
Can someone decipher what this means please: 'Cortisol and 5-HTP L-5-hydroxytryptophan induced increase in salivary cortisol in panic disorder patients and healthy volunteers. Psychopharmacology 2002. The results show that L-5-hydroxytryptophan stimulated salivary cortisol is a useful probe of serotonin

I Do Wonder What She Calls Him...
I've been wondering what Kate calls Prince Charles...Dad? Your Royal Highness? Charlie? To have to stand grinning like a loon, while clutching a baby only a few hours after giving birth...waving like a proper eejit at people with no sense...no thanks. I suppose she can't whinge and say her tummy hurts

A Case Of The Gimmes...
Sometimes...not often...I'm overcome by a case of the gimmes. Throwing myself on the floor and drumming my heels, because I want it and want it now... It'll be a book I've read about or seen advertised perhaps...top of the list at present is The Dublin Tenements...black and white photographs and stories

I'd Love To Go Travelling To Far Away Places...
I'd love to travel the old Silk road into China...rattling along in a rickety train...tiny cabins to sleep in...stopping at stations on the way to buy a bowl of fragrant rice from a stall on the platform...drinking tea from the samovar at the end of each carriage and playing cards with silent Chinese

Remembering Family Holidays...
Somewhere, buried at the bottom of a shoe box probably...is a photograph of myself and my little brother just inside the Major Oak in Sherwood forest...it is a grim photo. I've obviously been crying because my eyes are swollen almost shut and my brother is glowering in the way only a five year old can

Parkinson's awareness??
This week has seen World Parkinson's Awareness day and, in the UK, Parkinson's Awareness week. I assume the aim is to make the general public - and the medical profession- 'aware' that PD is not simply 'getting shaky in old age' but is a complex and devastating degenerative neurological disease that

Clinical trials using apps on smartphones
An article today in Wall Street Journal gives info on participating in clinical trials using smartphones. Then man in the article has parkinsons and by downloading an app called mPower is able to participate in clinical research on parkinsons. I don't have a smart phone but there is info on Google

I'd Have Liked To Have Been There...
It's been hot...it has honestly. I sat out in the back garden and watched a Jenny Wren flying back and forth with wisps of moss in her beak to the nest she's building in the old apple tree...the apple tree is rather like a tenement building for birds rather than humans. The small birds make their nests
