July 24, 2019. NOT “ESSENTIALLY SYMPTOM FREE”
On February 19, 2017 I wrote an essay “Parkinson’s Plasma Study Patient #1” in which I shared my enthusiasm for my recently completed young plasma study at Stanford. I wrote a follow-up essay, “Parsing Parkinson’s” on April 25, 2017. Of course, I’m not the only one interested in any long-term effects

Loss of integrity of the Blood Brain Barrier in the striata of patients with PD
Postmortem investigation find loss of integrity of the BBB in the striata of patients with PD. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4420870/ They can't say for sure whether the increased permeability of the blood brain barrier preceded Parkinson's disease, or was caused by it. Tracking the spread of Parkinson’s proteins from gut to brain.
A new adding Study reaffirms that the Build up of alpha-synuclein roots from Gut to Brain as Brain-gut connection . " These findings provide further proof of the gut’s role in Parkinson’s disease, and give us a model to study the disease’s progression from the start,” Dawson says. Blocking the transmission

Coenzyme a . Has anyone used this?
I’m just going back through my husband’s DNA report from opus and noticed he has SNPs that mean he has high dopamine beta hydroxylase activity. I looked this up and apparently it sulphyryl compounds can inhibit this enzyme. On the list is coenzyme a . I’ve found you can buy it on amazon. Reviews say

Dry, flaky skin
I read that Parkinson's Disease (and I'm assuming Atypical
Parkinsonism
) can cause dry flaky skin. I didn't make this up. I actually read it in a few different articles. My husband's skin has always been fairly dry but in the last year has gotten extremely bad. Face, arms, legs.

Hydrotherapy and exercise
Just one of those late evening thoughts. Seldom do we have posts on hydrotherapy here. Liz used to have one to one hydrotherapy with a neuro-physiotherapist. Her lack of balance was not an issue in the water. She was able to do exercises and swim and the resistance of the water gave her a good work

Cysteamine as a novel disease-modifying compound for Parkinson's disease: Over a decade of research supporting a clinical trial.
The molecule cystamine, and its reduced form cysteamine, act via a number of pathways identified as being critical to the pathogenesis of PD. In particular, these agents are capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, promoting the secretion of neurotrophic factors, the inhibition of oxidative stress

Meds to take with Carbo/Leva
My husband takes Carbo/Leva 25/100 three times a day at 1 1/2 pill first thing in the morning and at lunch, then 1 an hour before dinner and one extended release carbo/leva in the evening about an hour before bed. This just does not seem to be enough, as symptoms are getting worse such as speech problems

DLB
The DLB tool kit provides specific screening questions to help assess whether a patient has any of the four core features of the disease: cognitive fluctuations, REM sleep disorder, visual hallucinations, and
parkinsonism
. The presence of two or more indicates probable DLB.

Parkinson's and heavy metals
Hello, I'm new here and I would like to share my mothers PD development, and some research that I've found. Back in January 2017 she had Lordosis surgery in her lumbar back (back surgery). Titanium screws were put on her back and since then her mobility has reduced greatly, which I think has conduced

Cramps
Please note that most leg cramps are due to dehydration. Keep hydrated and use magnesium (glycinate, if you get the runs as mg is a muscle relaxer and that means gut muscles as well...otherwise citrate will do).

Cinnamon brings new hope for Parkinson’s Disease
"According to many studies cinnamon helps prevent cellular damage to the area of the brain that causes Parkinson’s." My friend has been using cinnamon and I'd begun to believe that his success was due to properties of Sodium benzoate and how they acted in the gut. I thought that the antibacterial activities

PSP - Are any two cases alike?
My husband (Sandy) and I went to our first Atypical
Parkinsonism
support group. He was just diagnosed a week ago although we had been expecting this diagnosis for a while. There were about 10-12 people, mostly PSP, a few with CBD diagnoses.

Wallowing in the Trough of Carbidopa and Benserazide
I hesitate to even start a thread that is heresy to many, many PD sufferers, many self proclaimed pharmacologists/biochemists on this forum and many of their physicians as well. It is all about a couple of PD drugs that can go very deadly if used inappropriately. Please realize, if you can do so, that

Can C/L and venlaxafine ( effexor/ SSNRI) possibly be the reason I experience some symptoms ?,?
I received a DAT SCAN (showed loss of dopamine in the right and left side of my brain) in 2015 confirming that I have Parkinson's but because my progression seems to be faster than most ,my dr said I have
parkinsonism
( some PSP qualities).. I feel like I have every symptom under the sun .

Amino acids and creatine
Yes I take creatine (5g day) and several amino acids (all 21 if possible). All of the above are very good for optimum muscle performance, especially recovery. Some amino acids are needed for cellular functions and brain health. No doctor will tell you this. You have to find out yourself. Lots of good
