Entacapone
Dear all My consultant has prescribed a drug called Entacapone. This was in response to me describing the dramatic down period once my Sinement+ tablet had worn off - it is supposed to lessen / even out the fall. Please does any one have any current views on Entacapone - and does it work? I look forward

Video on the microbiome and how it relates to PD. Also, recruiting for (remote) trial.
Very interesting information about various things related to the microbiome and PD. If you want to jump to the trials they're recruiting for, go to timestamp 25:00. This video was posted in March 2021, so it might be too late for the trial. I'll come back here and update this once I hear back from them

RLS Improving, Insomnia Worsening
My husband has suffered from RLS for 30 years. A few years ago, he started on Mirapex which did wonders at the time. It started to augment this spring, even causing him to fall asleep in an instant when driving. Withdrawal was a nightmare. Since mid-July, he's been on 600 mg. Gabapentin, taken at

The Uric Acid Failure: Lessons Learned
RR = relative risk
Lesson one: Association ≠ Causation!
Mistaking association for causation is a major source of medical misunderstanding. It comes with real consequences, as we shall see. Observational studies can only find associations. Proving causation requires interventional studies

Mucuna dosage question
I am into my sixth year of PD. Up until now, I have avoided taking any PD drugs, relying entirely on supplements, in particular high dose B1. About 10 days ago, I started taking mucuna. I have been taking capsules from piping rock, one in the morning and one in the evening. Not feeling any particular

Time for a sea change?
I see that we are still advising people (seniors no less) to taper off prami - the worst of the worst. To me that’s equal to jumping in front of a freight train. The suffering is too great. I have unilaterally decided that the only way to do this is to first switch to Neupro, get the person comfortable

B1 overdose?
I hadn't had success with HDT when I used thiamine HCL. Recently there was a post describing the poster's success with thiamine mononitrate. I was encouraged to give this other form of thiamine a try. Starting October 4th I have done one 100mg sublingual tablet in the morning each day. It's been

Levodopa incidence
“In conclusion, our results are relevant to current practice. It is reassuring that early levodopa initiation and appropriately maximal tolerated dose do not appear to predispose to major, disabling dyskinesia.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6329327/?fbclid=IwAR3cBU8HRtHndGoqLJ_X9x2nhr7o1

A Curmudgeonly Approach to Supplements and Research "Progress." 😊
When I first joined this group a little over three years ago, I breathlessly scoured every post in search of the "silver bullet" which would slow or stop the progression of Parkinson's Disease and I spent a small fortune buying virtually every supplement which seemed reasonably possible to achieve that

Weaning off pramipexole
My neurologist has me weaning off pramipexole. I’ve been taking 1.5 mg since 2013. His plan is to cut my 1.5 mg tablet into fourths. For two weeks take 0.375 2x daily. Then for two weeks take 0.375 1x daily. After that start Entacapone. I’m almost two weeks in. So far my movement is a struggle

Dysknesia
I normally take 2 25/100 every 3 hrs, I tried entacapone with 1 and 2 pills worked OK, then I was getting dysknesia more often, cut pill entacapone in half didn't help, weaned off entacapone. I would get dysknesia occasionally, lately every time I take 2 25/100. Now I'm trying 1 pill 25

Mucuna puriens 1000mg
My new neurologist suggested I try mucuna puriens 1000 mg. because of side effects of sinemet ER 25/100 which I take at night. I also take Asian herbs prescribed by my acupuncturist which contains some levodopa three times a day. I took one 1000 MP capsule and my blood pressure and pulse shot up and
