My husband has been prescribed Levodopa but has MSA -C . I appreciate we are all different but wondered what experiences people have had ? Side affects ? Benefits etc . He has been to take 150mg daily , is it usual to start low and gradually increase ?
Levodopa: My husband has been... - Multiple System A...
Levodopa
MSA is a mixtue of symptoms. predominant parkinson symptoms and it is called MSA-P. Levodopa is generally good for parkinsons as it is a parkinsons drug.
MSA-c is mainly non parkinson but there may be some mixed in so it is worth trying levodopa just in case. BUT it may make some MSA-C worse. a balancing act.and yes start low and see what happens
My husband has MSA-C he was on Levodopa for about six months. It didn’t make his condition or symptoms any worse but certainly did absolutely nothing to improve his day to day symptoms so he stopped, which his consultant agreed with and now, two years later he is still taking nothing as everything out there seems to give him terrible side effects and we have decided it’s just not worth it
My husband was initially diagnosed with Parkinsons before finally getting to MSA. We tried coming off Levedopa but in the end went back to his original dose , including a slow release pill at night and we have found that when we forget it he often suffers from leg spasms. So we are sticking with the Levedopa regime and are careful to take it at the right times throughout the day. As you know we are all different !
My husband has been put on this too. It’s a low dose for two weeks then an increased dose. He’s had no side effects. So far so good. John was given this to help control his tremors. It’s helping to ease them but not completely.
