Can a needle be used twice in quick succession?!
I presume not but info from Googling suggests that people do. My rational brain thinks the risk is no different the 2nd time round as it's going through the same skin it's already been through? I have a lot of 0.5ml insulin needles and want to switch from 0.5ml daily to 1ml EOD, and am wondering if I

Upcoming appointment with MDS questions
I have an upcoming appointment with MDS this week and was thinking of asking them about having a Dat scan done along with having my vitamin B and D and also insulin levels checked. Has anyone had these checked before and do you think it is worth it? Also would you have any other questions to ask? Diagnosed

Hi, Ive been Type 2 diabetic since 2005. About two months ago I changed from HumulinM3 insulin to Rapid as well as Long acting insulins. I am in better control of the recent spikes and hypos since the change, and generally feel better. Appetite has increased and I simply inject the fast acting insulin

Endocronologist experience
Hi there, I recently had a top end and very experienced endocrinologist tell me that the 1.6mcg of levo per KG in weight was an old fashioned and outdated theory. Is this the case? I have just upped to 100mcg and was just wondering if I’m on the right dose. He seems to think that’s ok for me.

Sod's Law. Due for colonoscopy this morning, so spent the last 3 days on a white diet, no alcohol, yesterday went through the Moviprep routine to empty bowels, spent all evening on and off toilet, most unpleasant. Got up at 2am this morning for toilet, and guess what, of course, AF suddenly kicked in

more insulin again…
I’m having a bit of burn out at the moment… my levels aren’t where I want to be and I’m very frustrated. I asked my nurse about metformin today as my insulin isn’t having the desired effect. She has just increased my dosage of insulin yet again. I am sick of this. I take sooooo much insulin and I

Perimenopause and sleepy all the time
Hi fellow warriors! I'm seeing a private endocrinologist next week after suffering terrible day time sleepiness for 4 months. GPs have done bloods and can't find anything. I find them pretty useless so asked for a private referral. I'm 46, still have regular periods albeit slightly shorter duration and

To those newly diagnosed! There is hope!
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in Dec 2018. My form of Parkinson’s has a huge psychological element that many of you can relate to. It’s obvious because of how quickly I progressed while I was getting diagnosed . My Dad who was my best friend and business partner died unexpectedly in 2013, which destroyed

The Evolving Role of Diet in Prostate Cancer Risk and Progression
"Recent data have further solidified the association between
insulin
resistance
and prostate cancer ...". It's good to finally read that, although data to suggest it has been around for 20 years or so.

Diabetes and oesophagectomy
I had an oesophagectomy (keyhole) in December 2021. I've made a slow, steady recovery and feel very lucky to be as well as I am today. I eat well but of course in much smaller quantities.I'm a type 2 diabetic and prior to my op I had my diabetes well controlled using Metformin and diet. I was told, at

Biopsy "sliding scale"?
Hi,I am going to have a biopsy tomorrow and they have asked me not to take my insulin [type-2 dka] as " may need sliding scale" but not sure about what this means? I'm ok to take my other oral meds. I am trying to avoid Dr Google as this has caused more unnecerssary worry than needed, thanks

Statins may increase the risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
And this could include
insulin
resistance
(my bugbear). I'm not surprised that this group is at greater risk for PCa.

Hiccups ?
I am getting regular hiccups for the last three days - Is this a sign of something seriously wrong ? I am 72 Yrs old on diabetics tablets and with insulin the sugar level is under control - I regularly have a peg of whiskey and ginger beer with the evening meal. Also, I take a few tablets daily to keep

Pre-biotics vs post biotics - do we need pre, post or both?
This is a follow up post to the recent one about inulin. I had spent a lot of time involved with post-biotics but never really considered pre-biotics at all to date. This all changed quite recently when I stumbled across inulin which is described in a recent post so will not repeat all those comments
