Recent research shows that a plant based diet helps the body produce more insulin in those with type 2 diabetes.
Good morning everyone, I think that this is a really interesting article as it shows on a randomised test those who had a plant based meal compared to the ones who had a meat based meal with the same calories and micronutrients helped the body to produce more insulin in those with type 2 diabetes. As the regulars here probably know, I take quite an interest in this. Diabetes Type 2, and all the horrible consequences that follow, is simply not taken seriously by the NHS, despite the fact that a large chunk of its budget disappears into that particular black hole. Research shows that a plant based diet can increase insulin in type2 diabetic patients.
Hi everyone, I think that anything that helps people improve their health with diet is worth considering, this was published recently in News Medical. Basically researchers found that a plant based meal helped produce more insulin, incretin hormones in those with type2 Diabetes compared with a similar

I don't want to speak to soon but....
I came across some Nutrigen Inulin sachets for stool regularity on Holland & Barretts website and they *seem* to be making a difference. My three year old has been struggling with stool withholding for about a year now. Longest he held was 10 days and his stools (when they did appear) were a big sticky

Choline and Betaine & total and lethal PCa in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study.
New study from Elizabeth Platz (Johns Hopkins) [1]. Most here will be aware of choline from PCa imaging (18F-choline-PET/CT, 11C-choline PET/CT ...) or eggs (one yolk has about 115 mg of choline, depends on the size). If PCa cells have a hunger for enough choline to make it a viable PET scan tracer,

So how much carbs is ok? It's a common question...
Hi All - as a nutritional therapist and yoga teacher I am of course interested in choices that help to thrive and help me heal. I myself love sourdough bread and to think of bidding farewell to it upsets me! Over the years my observation is that we need to believe in what we are eating and that it does

Insulin resistant or not?
About 6 or 7 years ago I was very overweight, obese actually, and I had struggled all my life to keep my weight down. I know, looking back, that I was a carb and sugar addict. And I am pretty sure that I must have been insulin resistant. When my husband and I went onto a sort of keto diet, everything

Not sure where to ask this question...
... but seeing as I have PA I'll post it here for now. I'm sure the same question has been covered elsewhere in this goldmine of a forum but until I get my laptop fixed I have difficulty finding my way around on a tiny mobile screen. Does anybody know if or how PA affects blood sugar? B12 injections

Theory that I would like to hear your opinions on
I was at a doctor’s yesterday. She suspected that I have PCOS or insulin sensitivity and ordered blood tests to be done for both. That was my usual gynecologist appointment. Then I noticed something strange. I didn’t panic at all. On the contrary, I just said ‘oh okay thanks’ and moved on with my day

PCOS and Hashimoto’s?
Does anyone have PCOS and is it connected to Hashimoto’s in any way? How is it treated? Does it affect thyroid? My gynecologist suspects that I have it (she said it resembles PCOS while looking the ultra sound) and ordered some sex hormones to be done when I get my period and also OGTT with insulin levels

New to LCHF after years of being on WW diet
Hi Just a brief background on me, I was overweight as a teenager and I lost 2&1/2 stone with weight watchers, and maintained my weight. I was bullied for being overweight at school and a family member, so unfortunately, this memory is always at the back of my mind. Fast forward many years later I

Test Results
Hello everyone, I would appreciate if someone helps me to read my blood results. My thyroidectomy was done 11 years ago due to Graves disease and I was treated after only with T4. Last 6 months I am using ERFA NDT 2x60mcg a day..The test was done in Finland, so the lab range can vary. The last dose

Another clinical trial: GLP1R in Parkinson's Disease (GIPD)
Semaglutide is a synthetic analogue of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1), which stimulates GLP1 receptors (GLP1R). Stimulation of GLP1R in B-cells in the pancreas potentiates insulin secretion and contribute to blood glucose regulation. In the brain it is known that GLP1R stimulation in the hypothalamus

Pre-diagnostic carbohydrate intake and treatment failure after radical prostatectomy
New study below. "An association between dietary carbohydrate intake and prostate cancer (PCa) prognosis is biologically plausible, but data are scarce."
