Doctor trying to scare me out of getting a laparoscopy
She referred me for an MRI, prescribed Tranexamic acid and Mefenamic Acid, a blood test as I suffer with low iron and
haemoglobin
, and also gave me a examination. I then went back today for the results of my MRI and it was not a very nice experience.

Second Rituximab infusion.
Initial blood test showed low
Haemoglobin
. It took three attempts to insert the cannula so a bit sore. Antihistamine and steroids made me a little drowsy but infusion went smoothly with no dramas.

What does this mean?
All levels refer to 'normal' reference ranges My White Blood Cell count, MCV, MCH, Neutrophil and Basophil are all above the upper limit (obviously platelets too) - and
Haemoglobin
, RBC, Haemocrit, are all below normal range. What do you infer from this?

Good news re white blood cell count
Still a couple of abnormal readings though with regard to blood count
Haemoglobin
, Haematocrit MCHC Neutrophil count Monocyte count but nothing that he seems to be overly concerned about, so I guess down to the steroid use now and hopefully will turn to normal during tapering.

Jump in Haematocritt
My
Haemoglobin
from back end last year to a month ago was between 116 and 121. Hematocrit was 41%. Haematologist wouldn't give me iron tablets as last time hematocrit jumped uo so fast apparently put me at risk of a stroke. Last blood test a month ago
Haemoglobin
132 and Hematocrit 47%.

Anyone know anything about ferritin and trans ferritin saturation levels?
Haemoglobin
: below 120 g/L for females and below 130 g/L for males indicates anaemia Ferritin: below 15 ug/L suggests iron deficiency Transferrin Saturation: below 16% suggests iron deficiency Folate: 3 ug/L or below suggests folate deficiency Active vitamin B12: below 38 pmol/L suggests vitamin

Iron - wishful thinking
:-) But not a decent forum which specialises in ferritin, transferrin,
haemoglobin
, etc. All too often, I think iron gets viewed as an issue you get suffer because of something else. Not important enough in its own right to need, to deserve, a separate forum.
