Hi I am just wondering if anybody have similar problems like me I was diagnosed with CHF in May 2021 I had a blood test a few days ago which shows that my haemoglobin and haemotocrit are raised I am very worried that it can be PV or COPD I’ll of course ask my GP but perhaps I can get some information from you in the meantime I am very worried and upset.

Worried about high haemoglobin and haemotocrit blood test results
Did you mean to post on here? This is for Atrial Fibrillation mostly xxx
Sorry, Wilsond. I think I am a bit confused now. I don’t know how to post it elsewhere. I think it’s better to just speak to my GP. It would have been nice to know other people’s opinions who have the same problem, though.
I'm sorry we haven't been that welcoming. I see that you do have AF and we often talk about other problems we may have.
I'm in a somewhat similar position. A week ago I took a urine sample to my pre-assessment appointment for a hip operation. I noticed it was a bit cloudy. Afterwards I wondered if it was the jar which had previously had potassium tablets in it so I bought some test strips from Amazon.
They showed a high leukocyte count which usually indicates a urinary tract infection. As my op is in a fortnight I tried to get some antibiotics from the doctor but without much luck. I also emailed the hospital but have not heard anything.
I expect the blood samples I gave will show something up. I'll just have to wait and see now.
Incidentally, I was told to stop taking any over the counter medications including vitamins for a week before and apixaban for two days before my operation.
I've been taking 100mg tablets of Vit C for some time and that definitely showed up on the test strip. Apparently, high Vit C can affect other test results. They are only 100mg but 1000mg tablets seem to be the most popular.
Ooh, thanks you for that. I too am having surgery shortly and I’m fairly sure no one has told me to cut all supplements. They should have done cos I take a bucket load each day.
Hi I have just seen my GP When I told him I was worried about my haemoglobin and haematocrit levels he told me to repeat the blood test in 2 weeks’ time as the cause may be dehydration which I doubt as I drank a lot on the day of the blood test because I’ve had problems due to dehydration before. He also told me to stop all over the counter meds until the blood test is repeated. What I don’t understand is that why I had to call his attention to the elevated values of haemoglobin and haematocrit?? Does it mean that if I hadn’t checked my blood test results on Patient Access and hadn’t asked him for an appointment to check my results, he would have never called me?? I don’t really like this attitude. Is it just me, or…??
