PV and gout?
I've been having some gout-like toe pain lately, and I've just learned that my serum uric acid is high, so I'm presuming that the pain is coming from the deposition of uric acid crystals in joints. I understand that the high turnover of red blood cells in PV can lead to raised serum uric acid levels.

FACTOR VIII RISTOCETIN COFACT and FACTOR VIII ACTIVITY ASSAY results
Hello, I hope you are all doing well! Quick question, does daily aspirin lower FACTOR VIII RISTOCETIN COFACT and FACTOR VIII ACTIVITY ASSAY or is this a result of ET? My 16 yo daughters results have dropped from date: 12/21 - 44L to date: 06/22 - 37L everything else is normal, with the

Lycopene
I had brachytherapy about three years ago for Gleason 7 (4/3). What I try to do is eat foods that are best for my health. In researching foods for prostate cancer, I came across lycopene, which is found in tomato products. Tomato paste is particularly high in lycopene. Here is part of a study on lycopene

New med (again)
Blood test results show very little to be concerned about except very high uric acid levels! GP and myself both put this down to being on bendroflumethiazide. So now I have been prescribed nebivolol (some may recall my issues with bisoprolol) . I am happy with this. I feel I have a plan in place now

Why men with prostate cancer should care about the Supreme Court abortion decision
I remember a patient who was fired from his job when his employer found out he had prostate cancer. Life insurance can still be denied if you release medical history info. But neither employers nor life insurance have any recourse if you do not allow them to have that info. What protects you is the

Thrombocytosis of no known cause?
I have just been looking over my posts from 2008 2009 on another site when I was last at haematology with persistent high white count. Raised platelets and clotting out. I have read through my 7 page thread and in 2004 I had been referred with the same thing. After being discharged back then I had

Right Sided Pacemaker
I had a pacemaker inserted last year for sick sinus syndrome. Unfortunately it got infected and had to be removed. I found the whole thing very traumatic. Unfortunately had a four hour episode of low heart rate the other evening so might have to reconsider having another fitted which of course would

Living with PV
Hi I'm new here and I've just been diagnosed with PV and taking hydroxycarbamide, 1 tablet per day 2 at weekends along with allopurinol for the gout symptoms I was experiencing that led to the diagnosis. I also had approx. 8/9 pints of blood removed to get on top of the high number of red blood cells

Eliquis and minor surgery.
Eliquis and minor surgery. I’m scheduled for minor surgery and the doctor wants me to stop taking Eliquis 48 hours before and 48 hours after the surgery. I’m not sure that’s a good idea. Any feedback would be welcome. Thank you. Four

Hip & Knee Pain
I'm on Firmagon and have developed some pain and stiffness in my hips & knees. Could this be a side effect of Firmagon? Does anyone have any experience with a supplent called "Relief Factor" which is heavily advertised on TV? I'm not sure if it's a scam or not but I'd try it if I knew it was effective

Should over 75 old patient with ET continue to take baby aspirin?
Hello, I am 78, have ET and on Droxia, with platelets in low 600 range. My hematologist insists that I should continue with daily baby aspirin despite USPSTF report of April 26, 2002 suggesting that it may be reasonable to consider discontinuing aspirin use around age 75 years due to little benefit.

Haemophilia and blood clotting problems
I have been on apixaban but was taken off them to do further blood tests. From the test they found that the bloods for factor 8 level was at 221. Does anyone understand what this means and had similar results and were you put on medication for this to stop the risk of blood clots?

Is anyone using Voltaren?
My doctor recommended Voltaren following a recent knee sprain. He said it wouldn't interfere with my Xarelto since it's applied topically. I'm still a bit hesitant to try it. Anyone here using it?

How often should we have erythropoietin and LDH checked?
Hi there, When I was seeing my specialist at Vanderbilt, he was checking my Erythropoietin and LDH every 2-3 months. My local Heme/Onc doctor never orders anything but a CBC. I have been off HU since March 11 because it was making me feel horrible and I was supposed to start Besremi which was denied

CBD and Palmitoylethanolamide might not go together (or maybe they do)
So 3 out of the last 9 nights I have had minor RBD episodes. That is a lot for me. And it made me think about the fact that I have been on Palmitoylethanolamide for over a month, and then about a week ago I started having CBD also before going to bed. And this made me remember something I read about

Bio-identical hormone replacement practitioner recommendations please
I’ve just read the chapter on female hormone replacement in one of Paul Robinson’s book and decided I’m long overdue some help. I’ve been using natural progesterone for a long time with some success but the time has come to fine-tune. A blood test would be useful in ascertaining my status but I wouldn

The Role Of Bile Acids In Prostate Cancer
Bile acids (BAs) belong to cholesterol-derived sterols. Due to the side chain carboxyl group and hydroxylation of their steroid ring they are more polar than cholesterol. They have an amphipatic character for which they are known as natural detergents. Majority of cholesterol is excreted by bile acids
