CBD and Palmitoylethanolamide might not go together (or maybe they do)

So 3 out of the last 9 nights I have had minor RBD episodes. That is a lot for me. And it made me think about the fact that I have been on Palmitoylethanolamide for over a month, and then about a week ago I started having CBD also before going to bed. And this made me remember something I read about CBD and Palmitoylethanolamide working better separately than they do together:

INTERACTION BETWEEN THE PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF CANNABIDIOL AND PALMITOYLETHANOLAMIDE IN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS IN C57BL/6 MICE realmofcaring.org/wp-conten...

"This effect of CBD and PEA was accompanied by diminished inflammation, demyelination, axonal damage and inflammatory cytokine expression while concurrent administration of CBD (5 mg/kg) and PEA (5 mg/kg) was not as effective as treatment witheither drug per se. These results suggest that, CBD and PEA, non-psychoactive CBs, attenuate neurobehavioral deficits, histological damage, and inflammatory cytokine expression in MOG-immunized animals. However, there is

an antagonistic interaction between CBD and PEA in protection against MOG-induced disease."

Now if you Google CBD and Palmitoylethanolamide you will find plenty of posts that they work well together. So I could be wrong.

I also found this report that CBD interfered with the positive effects of THC: iovs.arvojournals.org/artic...

And this paper too: Opposite Effects of Neuroprotective Cannabinoids, Palmitoylethanolamide, and 2-Arachidonoylglycerol on Function and Morphology of Microglia frontiersin.org/articles/10... which shows two cannabinoids that work against each other: "Co-application of both cannabinoids with different targets did not lead to a positive additive effect as expected, presumably due to the contrary polarization of microglial cells."

What I am thinking, with my High School degree, is that cannabinoids are all different but they are poking around the same areas, and not poking in the same way. It is not great evidence, but it is enough for me to take a pass on the CBD for awhile.

Yes I tried it a few times recently hoping for good effects. It made my swallowing worse each time so it’s a pass for me

Which? CBD oil or PEA?

CBD oil, my daughter said she read it helped some people swallow better so I tried it and it made my swallowing worse. I tried full spectrum CBD

Thanks. I hope you find something that helps.

Thanks, as my HWP takes both, I may eliminate the PEA. CBD with 5% THC helps him sleep, and the umPEA was not helping much with nerve pain much anyway. He has been experiencing some strange symptoms in legs that are unusal for PD. Had a new CT and MRI on lumbar spine see Neurosurgeon this week. Decided to cut back on many of his supplements and slowly add them back looking for any interactions. Plan on keep Omega 3s, curcumin, magnesium, digestive enzymes, B12 & B1. The balance of the rest of his supplments (like ALA, liposomal glutathione, tudca, and several others will add one a week to ten days. Like conventional drugs, there are likely interactions with supplements not recorded as often.

I have a HS degree and no medical training. I don't take PEA to lower pain. I take it to lower inflammation and hopefully stop progression: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

Again, I don't know if it helps.

Is it possible, Bolt, that it's the PEA/Honokiol combination you take late in the day that isn't doing you good at night?

Possible. But I had taken a break from CBD and was doing pretty well with PEA/Honokiol.

Another thing I did was start adding more Magnolia Extract at night. And I have added Methylene Blue.

So for now I am just giving the CBD a break and we will see how it goes.

Hi Bolt,

Since my husband started on Honokiol by econugenics 20/2 he has had only 3 minor sleep disturbances. He takes only 1 capsule about 2230 before bed.

He takes 2 PEA luteolin after lunch together with a borage oil capsule. I did not give him a full dose of 1200 mg for first 3 months then taper to 600 mg as I was apprehensive of side effects. I had read someone’s post- golden grove ?- who said they see an integrative doctor who gave 700 mg PEA with borage oil.

Since we hv no integrative doctor here to consult I decided to follow that. I guess it can’t be working if hubby is still having elbow pain? Just started PEA last week of April so hv to give it time.

Hi Bolt, how are you doing with the PEA?

I am still taking 600 mg twice a day. I take a lot of things. I think my symptoms are getting worse (at least my face dandruff is getting worse).
