How accurate is your Glucose meter?
If you have taken your blood sugar twice or three times in a row without any delay in between tests, then you have probably noticed that you don't get the same exact number each time. That does not mean your meter is not operating correctly, but it does, though reflect the variance that is built in

Resistant starch for prebiotics, weight loss, avoiding insulin spikes, blood glucose control, etc...
I've been interested in this since watching Michael Mosley's Trust Me I'm a Doctor several years ago, when he showed eating cooled pasta reduced insulin spikes. A few years later, I read it was good as a prebiotic (something to benefit & promote good gut bacteria) & also for weight loss. Lots

Hydroxychloroquine and hypoglycaemia
Most people here are thoroughly bored of my tale of chronic exhaustion and episodes of sweating, flushing and nausea. I've had referrals to cardiology and neurology, as well as my usual rheumy and respirologist. None can explain these symptoms. Meanwhile, I have continued to be convinced that the explanation

Gestational Diabetes Concerns
Hi all. I am just about to reach 14 weeks and for a fair few weeks now I have been very thirsty and guzzling water yet my mouth remains extremely dry. Nothing seems to be quenching the thirst at all. I am also passing urine A LOT more than usual although I have always been a frequent goer anyway but

blood test insulin level high
hi all I posted before about my blood glucose levels being high in the mornings and after meals usually between 8 and 9.9 but my doctor had said that my levels are completely normal. I was told in no uncertain terms that I am not pre diabetic, diabetic or insulin resistant in any way. I have to admit

How can you check for diabetes without your GP?
I'd like to check myself for diabetes, I had a check 10 years ago which was negative however I've put on weight since then and have a lot of the symptoms. I can't see my GP without a lot of inconvenience and missing work so is there a way to test for it so I know if it's worth going before I try to make

Blood tests
Hi. After reading posts, I've noticed that it's advisable to fast and to not take medication until after the test. Surely this will only provide the doctor with an incorrect result because meds are supposed be taken at the same time every day. That means TSH levels are going to fluctuate and dosing would

So frustrated
I was really hoping today would be the day that I got some answers but no such luck. My doctor referred me on to a gynea as while my scan came back consistent with polycistic ovaries again, my testosterone is low (actually close to under normal levels, despite being high in the past - I wondered though

Deiodising mechanism
When I switched to a ketogenic diet my need for NDT dropped significantly - I went from 2.25 tablets to 1.25. For the first 8 months or so I stuck to 20-25grams of carbohydrate daily. That's not a lot, and significantly limits variety in the diet. So I bought myself a ketone meter and started to experiment

Have enjoyed my runs more this week after a wobble with my blood glucose during running last week. Pretty sure I've cracked it now :) Am currently increasing from 5k to 5 miles as have my first 5 miler in December. My knees are still giving me pain although it is now a different pain from when I first
