Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease, and chronic kidney disease
In addition to hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s disease, I am shocked to hear that I have “mild chronic kidney disease” (CKD). On this forum people suggested having tests for glomerular filtration rate (GFR). So I had mine tested. My result is 76 ml/min/1.73 m2 which means I suffer from mild CKD (ref

The Newcastle Diet : does it work?
If you're short on time, the brief answer is "for most people, no, not really". The longer answer is very interesting. Here's the summary of the 2-year followup, straight from the source: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/media/wwwnclacuk/newcastlemagneticresonancecentre/files/DiRECT%20-%202%20year%20results.pdf

Beware of Potential Food Intolerances
I suffer principally with small intestinal bacteria overgrowth (SIBO) but this condition has caused large bowel dysbiosis with IBS symptoms too. Some Fodmap's like Fructans are my enemy (presently) but it is now becoming apparent that I have developed some other food intolerances as a consequence of

GRAVES AND THYROTOXICOSIS : OTHER METABOLIC ASPECTS, CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM
The basal oxygen consumption in thyrotoxicosis, as measured by the BMR, is elevated. The increase is above the level of metabolism that the person would have if he or she were not thyrotoxic. In extreme thyrotoxicosis, the BMR may be double the standard, that is, according to the usual mode of expression

Cold, sweaty tingly feeling after breakfast
Today after eating his breakfast at 9.45 my husband said he got a cold tingling sweaty feeling and had to lie down. He had his sinemet and uridine an hour or so before so I don’t think it was that. Do you have any idea about what that feeling might be? He thought it seemed like when you get a stomach

Hi All, I was put on Zytiga and Prednisone by my oncologist about six weeks ago after being on ADT and casodex. My onc said that adding Zytiga would extend life. Before starting with the Zytiga and being on adt plus casodex, my PSA was .2 and T was 290. With Zytiga and Prednisone added after six weeks

GLYCEMIC INDEX AND GLYCEMIC LOAD

Strange, metallic smoulder. What might be causing it?
I have this... Sensation in my lungs, and around my chest. It has been there for a while, but it is hard to describe because it is unlike anything I have ever felt or heard about. It smoulders like a shot of strong alcohol, or when you push yourself to run for too long. It is uncomfortable, not painful

On the keto diet? Ditch the cheat day. Just one dose of carbohydrates can damage blood vessels
Reading some impressive posts on here lately about the keto diet, I was thinking about giving it a try. I came across this article and wonder what the more knowledgable HU members think. Thank you https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/03/190327112657.htm Date: March 27, 2019 Source: University

Artificial Sweeteners
Good morning, all. I found this newsletter in my inbox this morning from IDM (Intensive Dietary Management), I think this is Jason Fung's group. You have to scroll on down in there to find a short post on artificial sweeteners. https://idmprogram.com/idm-round-up-june-21-2019/?utm_source=IDM+List+-+

Type II Diabetes and Blood Glucose Testing
As mentioned before I am a firm believer of BG testing for Type IIs even if not on insulin. Whilst the HbA1c gives a good indication of average BG it does not show how it was achieved. Research shows that if BG stays in a narrower band the chance of complications are reduced compared to the same HbA1c

Update on diabetes worry
I took a urine test which came up negative of glucose and a blood glucose reader which I did three times and gave me a score of 4.5 which is good and yet I’m still worrying like sorta making excuses on how the test must be wrong such as I left the test strips out of its container for about an hour before
