I think my new antidepressant is making my asthma worse
I started taking escitalopram 5mg last Saturday to help treat anxiety. It has worked remarkably well so far. But I’ve noticed my chest becoming progressively worse this week, with my peak flow being at 375/350 and I can’t get it to budge. Normally it’s 400/410. I read that serotonin can cause bronchoconstriction

What I wish I had known (and what I have learnt through trial and error!)
Hi everyone Another repost from a couple years ago (and bought it up 8 months ago too apparently) so apologies if you’ve already read it 😉😂. But it’s another thing that those new to asthma may find helpful, and if anyone has anything they want to add just tag in! (I think this is the last for a while

What I wish I had asked my GP/asthma nurse (when first diagnosed 😉)
Hi everyone This is a repost of one of my posts from over 2 years ago 😱😱😂, but I thought it would be useful to update it, and repost it to anyone new to the forum and to asthma in general! A few years ago I read an article about shared appts with GPs ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45770998 ), and

What is Peak Flow?
There seems to be a lot of confusion of what peak flow is, how it works and what is a ‘good’ score so I thought I’d make a post on it! WHAT IS PEAK FLOW? Firstly peak flow (PF) can also be called peak expiratory flow (PEF) or peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) so any and all of these abbreviations means

Smart peak flow meter (digital)
I was looking at the smart peak flow meter and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it? If they have, would you recommend the investment?? Thank you in advance.

Supplements for endometriosis, detoxification and immune health
Hi ladies, I thought I’d post as I’ve been experiencing some positive change lately and wanted to share what I’ve been doing in the hope that it could bring relief to more people. I’ve read lots on supplements and alternative medicine and from reading about Ayurveda I kind of came across very good supplements

Struggling
Hi all, hopefully you can give me advice. I’ve had asthma for years but it’s always been stable using clenil, salmeterol and salbutamol. Beginning of March it started to play up and over the following 2 months I had 2 courses of antibiotics and 2 courses of steroids which seemed to settle things down

Costochondritis
Hi. I injured my chest about a year ago when I first got diagnosed with asthma and other lung issues. I wonder if anyone else has a low peak flow due to chest inflammation here. The doctors here were never able to really get why I have such abnormal pulmonary function for my age. Thanks!

Asthma with GERD
I still face control problems with my asthma and find it increasingly frustrating to get my various doctors to explain or commit to an answer so I rely on places like this for help. People who experience it in my view are actually a better source often. Here is my question. Yes, I have asthma. I take

How To Use Peak Flow Meter
Hi. Im not asking how to use the PFM, but rather asking do you take a puff first and then breathe? Or do you do it without a puff? Also, I know its a personal thing, but what roughly is a decent number for peak flow? Thanks so much. Learning so much on these boards about this condition...I had it when

Qvar and peak flow
I'm 12 weeks post-viral and have not been diagnosed with asthma. I (still) have breathlessness and itchy chest. I was given salbutamol 8 weeks ago and a trial of Qvar 4 weeks ago. I had an off-the-record chat with the respiratory nurse at the GP's where I work (not where I'm registered) last week. She

Post Covid Asthma won't settle
Hi, this is going to be a long one. I came down with suspected Covid at the end of March. Previous to this my asthma was well controlled on fostair 4 x 100/6, ventolin as needed (once a month or less), dymista and cetirazine. I've been on this lot for about 7 years with the occasional issue after respiratory

Asthma or not???
I have been so appreciative of help from you all. My dilemma now is am I a true asthmatic or victim of allergy. I have had side effects from Fostair and Budesomide . Last night I stayed off my inhaler to test my reaction. This morning my peak flow was usual 550 and SP02 97. Am I being foolish to wonder
