Asthma not recovering with steroids
I'm on day 17 of 40mg prednisone having had a bad chest a couple of weeks ago. Ended up at ambulatory care at my local hospital last Monday when I was told to continue with my steroids for a further ten days, problem is my wheeze has gone but I still feel very breathless I was told that I don't have

Peak flow meter
Hi, I just received my first peak flow Meter and tried it today. This morning it was 30 and just now it was 35. I just wondered what the readings should be if one did not have asthma, and whether this is a bad reading? Thanks for all your advice so far,.

Question for AFers with asthma, peak flow readings.
I drop into the British Lung Foundation forum if I see an interesting post and a few days ago there was link to a chart showing what your peak flow should be based on height and age. I discovered that my Max is at the very lowest acceptable level. I was interested to know whether others with AF also

Chest infection 2 weeks before ablation
Could not have come at a worse time. I was supposed to be at Harefield this morning for pre-admission tests and info. Instead I am coughing; have a peak flow of only 170 and am on oral steroids and anti-biotics plus normal inhalers and meds. GP phoning me tomorrow to check on any improvement.

Preeclampsia at 19 weeks
Hi. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 19 weeks. I had blood pressure of 173/101 and a high level of protein in my urine. I'm now 20 weeks and the doctors told me that I cannot delay my pregnancy because my health could be negatively impacted and I could get seizures and such or even die. My baby will

Negative spirometry
I've just had a spirometry for reversibility and the before results were almost perfectly normal while the after results showed half the level of improvement needed for diagnosis. I've had an inhaler for over 20yrs and take it most days, at least once but recently more. I had a peak flow trial while

Apps for recording peak flow (Apple)
Hi Can anyone recommend an apple app for recording peak flow? The ones discussed here are a few years old, so I wondered whether there is anything better, or more up to date? many thanks xx

Being stepped up.
So went for a review with my asthma nurse today as she wanted to review my peak flow. She doesn't think things have improved much - although I thought they had - but she knows best (but I had had a chest infection this last week and a half so not the best representation over the last three weeks). She

Further Forward??
Hello All As i now have another bad chest infection i went back to GPs and saw a different doctor. Apparently he is the surgery asthma/ copd expert - they kept that quiet! After my normal GP was almost certain i have copd, today's one said i definitely do not as my peak flow varys between 250 to 420

What happened?
I had a really scary event earlier and I'm not really sure what happened!! I was just sat watching TV when I needed to cough, I just kept coughing then when I tried to breathe in, I was really struggling to get any air in, like my throat had closed and I was making a loud noise, not a wheeze, a gasping

Gentamicin and Ciprofloxin - update 1
Eventually got the right Gentamicin after pharmacist tried to give me the wrong one. Reordered but still the vial looked different to the one that the socialist nurse had used on my test dos. Pharmacist could not confirm as she could not find any info for me. My GP away and another GP was unsure if it

Such a never ending cycle
My consultant said if my PF was stable for a few days in a row I could start attempting to wean down the preds. So I had a few good days, I wasn't going to be running any marathons anytime soon but I could actually have a conversation without getting out of breath from the talking and winding up sounding

Yay! I can breathe :)
Just wanted to post a more positive response. After 6 days of steroids (seems to be taking longer each time!) I feel like I can actually breathe without fighting for my air! Peak flow is up to 400 on first try so def better than 250 it's been, suddenly started sneezing so there's def something happening

Very upset
So I am new to this forum, and can't thank Asthma UK enough for their help. However, I have been back and forth through out of hours doctors, duty doctors and A&E this week, as as you know Asthma exacerbations never happen at a good time. Would like to know if anyone else receives dramatically conflicting

Asthma or Heart Problem
Hi, I just wondered if anyone on here has been diagnosed with Asthma when actually they have a heart problem. I have been diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma and have tried 4 different inhalers now - none seem to help get rid of my breathlessness or cough but my peak flow readings are fine. I have

Hydro vs pred
Hiya. My asthma has been going downhill over the past few days after quite a good stint. Although peak flow is not a good indicator for me, the GP (and AUK nurse) have recommended a course of oral steroids. A couple of years ago I was put on pred and had awful side effects. After that the specialist

Copd and fibremyalgia
I have had poor lung function due to copd and just been diagnosed with fibremyalgia. I am currently struggling to breathe when walking (worse than normal) and don't know if it is the weather or fibremyalgia. My peak flow is pretty much normal and steady. Is anyone else suffering in a similar way?

Hyperventilation
I was wondering how many people have been diagnosed as asthmatic as a child but never wheezed then as you got older consultants and gps have decided it is hyperventilation as no wheeze. I find it really frustrating as both consultant and GP say it is not asthma but hyperventilation but continue getting
