Severe/chronically poorly controlled asthma: what do people do with 'small' flares?
I know the usual advice for attacks/poor control etc, but what do people on here who have chronic poor control do for flares that are more than their baseline level, but not enough for hospital etc? (NB the following is very particular to me and is not something I am advising for anyone else, especially

Severe asthma attack ...still poorly
Hi guys I'll try and keep this as short as possible. I got out of hospital yesterday after a severe asthma attack. I didn't respond to nebulisers as much as they hoped so I had IV magnesium then had more or less continuous nebs and oxygen for 24 hours. I've been discharged on antibiotics, steroids 40mg

Travelling with a PF meter
Hi! Just for information. Yesterday I was travelling abroad via Manchester Airport. Like the previous time my hand luggage got specially checked because of my peakflow meter. I always carry the PF meter in my hand luggage as I have had the experience of my hold luggage going awol, and I don’t want it

Peak flow
Hi can someone please explain peak flow to me? I take it twice a day at the minute as I've been feeling unwell for a week and I've been on a 5 day course of prednisolone. I find my peak flow has raised but I still feel quite poorly. Also, I think I had too much salbutamol today as I felt very shaky,

Feeling totally confused. Just seen the doctor for the first time. Had spiro test a couple of weeks ago, fev1 43, showing severe. Had a chest xray last week. Well xray all ok, great news, given rescue antibiotics and steriods, in case i get infection, put on pulm rehab course, starts in 6 weeks.

My sister's asthma
My sister has been doing well lately but this week she is having trouble breathing. She has been to Drs. Saw the asthma nurse. Told her chest was clear but she might have a chest infection. Given more steroids and antibiotics. Her peak flow was 300 which is low for her as she usually does better than

Worried about taking brown inhaler
I was told in my blow tests my lung function was good, then given a peak flow to measure for 3 weeks I got called in to nurse and she said my reading were up and down so I was prescribed a brown and blue inhaler. I have been reading up about asthma and it says you are usually given the blue one first

Suspected asthma but no wheeze
I have been suffering with a cough for 2 months. It is worst at night, waking me from sleep and when I exercise. I saw a nurse about 5weeks ago and she suspected asthma. My peak flow was only 220, about half of what it should be. I was given a blue inhaler to relieve symptoms. I used this frequently

Eosinophilic Asthma?
Hi, I’m looking for some advice! My name is Emma, I’m 27 and I have had asthma since I was 2 years old. I was hospitalised quite a few times as a child but then I seemed to grow out of it through my teen years into my twenties. However, when I turned 25/had my daughter, my asthma seemed to come back.

What should I ask my consultant?
18 months ago my asthma became much more stable after being switched to Symbicort SMART and Spiriva Respimat by the consultant I saw in addition to Montelukast. After seeing him a few times he was satisfied that things were stable and he discharged me back to the care of my gp. All went well and I had

Typical!
How typical! I’ve spent the last few days telling everyone who asked that my asthma was great at the moment and I really felt like it was fairly under control for the first time in ages. Then last night I had some kind of allergic reaction to some air freshener in a taxi (or I assume it was that as

diagnosed with 'possible' asthma
Hi all, I am new here, and scared. I have had several bouts of supposed bronchitis over the last 2 years, always affecting my right lung. In October 2016 I had atelectasis, and was treated with ventolin as well as 2 courses of ABs. My peak flow is apparently okay, chest x rays likewise. The spirometry

Cough: Cold or asthma?
I caught a cold about a week and half ago. It's pretty much done now, except for a cough that seems to be worse. Everyone else I spread it to (at work, whoops) has a milder cough than mine. My PEF scores vary between good (twice this week) and just into the amber zone, so completely disproportionate

Still Fed Up
I have now been struggling since January when I had pneumonia. My peak flow has gone from 450 to 250. I must add I also have heart block. Dilated Cardiomyopathy, and AF as well as severe pain due to 2 damaged discs in my spine. I have been rushed to hospital 4 or 5 times since January either with

New Diagnosis?
Hi, I suffer from severe hay fever, and am currently on a blue ventolin/salbutamol inhaler due to suspected seasonal asthma (spent 2 weeks on prednisolone before being put on the inhaler) and have been for the past 2 months which has made a massive difference to me! Fev 106%
So I’ve had my spirometry today I don’t have the results but the lady running through my test did show me at the end. From memory the fev was 106% (how is this even possible?) and the score was 4 point something can’t remember exactly. The fvc (I think) was 96% and the peak flow was also 96% and if I

What next?
Hello All! I was diagnosed with "mild persistent asthma" this past April and am still having symptoms almost every day. I have improved since April, but now generally it's just tightness/breathlessness and productive coughing that lasts for about an hour every morning. I generally have no issue sleeping
