GP refusing to offer IFAB Test
I recently requested and Intrinsic Factor Antibody test with my GP and was told there's no need to do this test if my Parietal Cell antibody test was negative/normal. The Parietal Cell test was done in Jan 2021 and I assumed the IFAB was done at the same time and also came back normal. (I was unaware

Hi all, I've been investigating possible causes of long-term fatigue. My symptoms & PA risk factors are listed below. I'm currently waiting on results for the Intrinsic factor antibodies test (bloods taken over 2 weeks ago through GP). On advice of a nutritionist I've been taking an oral B complex,

Iron Infusions
An interesting article on iron infusions and when they should be considered for the general population. It mentions that inflammation can stop iron absorption. It also confirms that newer iv iron formulations are much safer with very low risk of adverse side effects. Most GPs will say iron infusions are

Blood Test Results - Unusual Symptoms
Hi there I'm a 56 year old woman and have been treated for an under active thyroid for a decade or so. Currently taking 150 mcg Levothyroxine sodium per day. Around 8 weeks ago I started to experience some unusual symptoms; intense anxiety, fatigue, calf muscle twitches (and random twitching elsewhere

Anemia
dealing with iron deficiency anemia of chronic diseases and suspect a B12 deficiency too but I almost think my immune system has attacked something else, to the point that I have a whole nother level of Anemia’s … It’s been 6 weeks since I had my last iron infusion and I’m starting to feel really weak

Husband with PD hospitalised with uti infection
I'm worried sick about my husband, he became very unsteady on his feet, couldn't stand up, couldn't walk his speech changed dramatically to a tiny whisper he just can't make himself heard. This all happened in the space of a couple of weeks his neuro suggested a UTI and he was started on antibiotics

IFA negative, Low Active B12 - advice please.
Hi - a brief update and request for advice on B12. I have autoimmune hypothyroidism. Following a disappointing Endo appointment I wrote a detailed email to request an appointment with the Consultant as I felt I hadn’t had the chance to discuss my concerns properly with her junior. This was granted

Iron Info Heme vs Non Heme
So, Heme iron is from animal sources and is apparently better absorbed than non Heme iron (from plant sources). The two different iron types are absorbed by different pathways. But, there are real risks in supplementing with Heme iron - Coronary Artery disease and Cancer incidence increases. I would

Gentle liver flush - any benefits?
Hi All I've been reading about the link between hypothyroid and liver. I have decided to do a gentle detox. This involves castor oil on a cloth and a hot water bottle and lying it on the liver region for about 45 minutes. I've do it two days in a row. I just wondered if anyone else has done this and

Castor Oil Packs - for elimination , to reduce inflammation and parasympathetic state

B12 deficient - just wanted to share
Hi all, I just wanted to share my story as I've had so many thoughts and concerns rattling around my head these past couple of weeks that I don't know if I'm coming or going. I have had occasional heart palpitations since at least late spring, but didn't really think much of it until a month ago when

Even though I've commented on other posts, this is my first. In July I coughed up blood, saw the GP who organised a chest x-ray. The GP called me an hour after the x-ray to tell me I had a 6cm shadow on my right lung and it could be cancer. After meeting a respiratory consultant, I had CT scan, PET scan

any similar experience?
Hello friends, I did a chest X-ray following a bad flu to check for pneumonia which I didn’t have. The x-ray showed a prominent pulmonary artery. My doctor suggested doing an echo which showed a prominent artery as well. I have zero symptoms and I run everyday 7k! I’m scheduled for a CT scan to see what

Cough cough cough - Methotrexate?
I have PMR/GCA/LVV – all currently under control on 5mg Pred and 25mg MTX. However… I’ve had a terrible cough for three weeks now. Thank the Lord for Tena Ladies! I’ve gone through a bottle of Kovonia from the local pharmacist; a course of Doxycycline 100mg antibiotics from GP1 (telephone consult)

Why ………..
My fit and healthy 48 year old husband sadly passed away on the 6th November 2022. It all began on the 3rd October 2022 when he coughed up some blood that morning whilst brushing his teeth. We got him an appointment that day to see our local GP who after a quick check of his chest was not overly concerned

Adjusting to new thyroxine dosage
Please could someone help as have recently had my dosage of thyroxine increased after blood tests indicated that it needed to be done. I also managed to have my brand changed back to Goldshield recently. Have been feeling like hell for some time so eventually my GP agreed to have bloods done, thus
