Elevated cholesterol but no signs of inflammation?
I have closely followed all the debates about statins, and sugar vs. saturated fat, and am a believer that the pharmaceutical industry has vastly overplayed the benefits of statins. I have been on statins for the past eight years, but decided to give myself a break from them, and came off them for seven

My moods are Up Down Up down
Very down today. This chest infection is really dragging me to the depths and now the Practice Nurse after the results of my blood tests tells me to get my cholesterol level down from 5.3 to under 5. Consultant told me in May to eat to put on weight. Seems I can't win. Even on the low fat diet I could

Fed up of being messed about by the NHS
About a year ago I had a couple of nasty skin infections so I went to the GP for antibiotics and she ran a comprehensive set of tests. As it was before christmas, I didn't bother ringing up for the results but went back because I still had a boil and saw a trainee GP who told me my cholesterol was 8.2

Cholesterol still high, why?
Despite following all the rules about diet & exercise, my LDL levels are 4.5, & my HDL 2. I can`t understand why. I`m female, 61, non smoker with a family history of heart disease, & I`m scared stiff despite the practice nurse telling me that it`s no big deal. I tried statins, but they didn`t suit me

Spoke to soon!
I posted last week that my cholesterol was down to 4.5, well i had an appointment with the practice nurse yesterday, & she said that was just the LDL level. My overall cholesterol is just as high as it was before, & now I`m despairing of ever getting it back to normal. The nurse said that it`s nothing

" pieces of good news this week.
Yesterday I went to an appointment at my local hospital for a pre-op check up before I have a rectocyle operated on, & I won`t need a general anastheatic, just a local, & some sedation. I`ll have to stay in overnight because I won`t have anyone to keep an eye on me after the sedative, but that doesn`

Spreading the Word
I have just come back from a GP appointment to get some more cholestagel. He asked if I would mind speaking to a fifth year medical student and he left the room. What an opportunity to tell the next generation of doctors about statin side effects, risk versus benefits, the disparity of genetic testing

Coconut Oil, Lauric acid, and Cholesterol
There had been several posts in the past few months discussing benefits of large doses of coconut oil for relieving portions of PD symptoms. One of the issues that has come up from time to time is the question of the impact of taking a large dose of the saturated fat in coconut oil on one's overall health

Cholesterol
I have just recieved the results of my latest cholesterol test, and am confused. HDL. cholesterol. 2.67. mmol/L 0.9 - 10 Cholesterol (presuming this means LDL.) 6.4. mmol/L. Total Cholesterol: HDL ratio. 2.4 Would this indicate

got cholesterol down 6.7 to 4.6 and triglycerides 4.3 to 2.0 following health/diet overhaul after hols there up to 6.7 and 3.5 How and why ?
On blood pressure tablets and under pressure to go on a statin. Lost 1.5 stone in weight, now a pretty fit 58 yr old, this is quite a setback and is mystifying as I eat sensibly, drank fairly modestly and played golf 4 times on my wk away

The On-Line Gluten Summit - A Grain of Truth - There were a few things I thought interesting and worth reporting.....
There were 29 speakers/experts from around the world over the last seven days. I did not hear them all nor can I remember everything I heard - but there were some amazing facts - so will list them as points:- VitD can reverse production of auto-immune anti-bodies - no dose mentioned. AID is genetic

Can anyone help me with these test results for my Cholesterol please - and any recommendations on how to avoid going on Statins .
I have had my cholesterol test results back and they are as follows:- HDL 4.9 (Ratio 1.1.) : LDL 3.5 (Ratio 3.2) Total cholesterol was 5.4. I got these readings from receptionist over the phone and she has said that the GP has left a note to say that I need to come back for a further fasting test

My husband has finally been diagnosed with Polymyelitis Rheumatica; 1 injection of steroid stopped pain. Cholesterol level 3.3, no statins.
In desperation and against all our principles as NHS supporters we paid to see a specialist who diagnosed the condition immediately. Our GP will now continue to monitor blood cholesterol levels which presumably the statin had reduced and administer a declining dose of steroid - probably long term. Maybe

Result: Action required My cholesterol test gives me a slightly raised level of 5.53. I’m confused as Diana is vegetarian and I’m hardly overweight at 6ft 3in with a size 34 waist. But we eat far too much cheese and lashings of butter. It’s no disaster – I’ve no family history of heart problems. I’
