Is there a link between high cholesterol and taking lever thyroxine tablets as my cholesterol is high and cannot understand why.

There is a link between high cholesterol and hypothyroidism, particularly if it is untreated or under-treated. My cholesterol dropped by about 25% when I was finally treated for hypothyroidism.

Thanks for replying, but the latest bloodtest said that my thyroid levels were fine as I am on 100 micrograms of thyroxine

Do you actually feel fine? And do you have the results of recent free T4 and free T3 tests? Just because your doctor says your results are fine doesn't necessarily mean this is actually the case. It is always a good idea to ask for paper copies of results, and to keep a record of your results, symptoms and dosages.

It is for me...I cannot tolerate high doses of any drug, it's taken tweny years to get to 100 I started out at 75

What are your levels for B12 - Ferritin - folate - Iron - VitD ? All needed for good conversion of the T4 you are taking....and they need to be high in their ranges. Maybe the T4 is not converting into T3 but just stacking up in the blood which is why you find it difficult to increase your dose. We do need your results and ranges to comment helpfully....

Cholesterol will lower when you are being optimally treated. Years ago if you had raised cholesterol they treated your thyroid....

I have never seen the results on paper, it's usually done by phone In two words...your fine, by the receptionist! What you are saying does make sense, I shall be seeing my G P next week and shall ask to see it!

Not only see it - but obtain copies of ALL results so you are able to monitor your own journey to wellness. We cannot rely on others to create optimal health....good luck. Make a list of the things you need tested and the questions you want to ask - then be polite but firm.

I have the same problem, I`m taking 50mg of Levothyroxine daily, but my cholesterol remains on the high side.
