Methotrexate or Prednisone which is more damaging?(also update on eyes)
Hi, it's me again. During an eye exam, I was told my optic nerve was narrow, and that I needed to be seen asap due to the risk of blindness with GCA. I got in to see a neuro ophthalmologist who told me that my optic nerve isn't narrow, it's just turned on an angle. Probably from my connective disease

Rate of Decrease in RBC Count
Recent diagnosis of MPN, all three counts elevated. RBC count was 1.2 million, but lowered by phlebotomy to 922,000. I have started on Hydroxyurea. Are there any resources that provide information on the rate I could expect my RBC count to go down? 100K/month, 50K/month, etc. Thanks! hsdale3

Optic nerve narrowing
Hi everyone, I've had PMR & GCA for 16 months. Currently on 15mg prednisone. Stopped Actemra 2 months ago. My eyesight in my left eye has been changing rapidly over the past several months. It's gotten really blurry. I've never needed glasses for distance, but now it's hard to drive at night or see

Cataract Surgery: NHS referral for fast treatment
I’m aware that cataracts are a common side effect of steroids. I’ve developed cataracts in both eyes, rapid growing and last week had surgery for replacement lens in one eye. The waiting time for NHS treatment at the hospital eye clinic is over three years. I was referred for urgent surgery under

In hospital again
Sorry, I'm just letting you all know so I can get it off my chest. So after being in start September my pred went up to 20mg daily and life was great. Slowly it deteriorated, I cut the pred slightly getting down to 13 but this wasn't good so back up to 15. I started abatacept. A few days before I felt

I have recently been prescribed the above medication to reduce my ocular pressure due to complications during
cataract
surgery
. My muscles have ached so much that I am glad to say I will be taking my last tablet in an hour.

abatacept
hello, I’m about to start abatacept (Orencia) and would like to know if anyone here uses abatacept in a prefilled pen. My gp seems to think it only comes as an infusion or as a prefilled syringe but I’m sure I have seen it referred to on fb as a pen. Could anyone confirm so that I can ask my rheumatologist

Get Your Cataracts Treated!
Age-Related Macular Degeneration sufferers experience a gradual deterioration in their sight due to changes in the macular. Most sufferers are, of a certain age! Another common age-related eye condition is the development of a cataract, so it is not unusual to suffer from both conditions simultaneously

Steroid injection and surgery
Hi all , I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long you have to wait after steroid injection in the bottom before having gallbladder removal I've been told operation will be in 2 to 3 mths unless a cancellation comes in. But a friend said I'll have to wait 3mths now

Medication change prior to surgery?
I’m wondering if it is a good idea to increase my prednisone dose ahead of
cataract
surgery
next week?. It’s expected to be a routine and ‘non invasive ‘ procedure but all the same sure to be hard body. I’m on 6mg prednisone and started at 60mg for GCA just over four years ago.

cataracts b.c. of long-term steroids
Does anyone know what the symptoms of cataracts developing are, after long-term use of inhaled steroids and/or prednisolone? I've heard cataracts are common symptoms, and I wonder how one knows one is developing them. I've been on Trimbow 172.5 for 6 months and on 2 mg prednisone for 2.5 years; prior

Anesthesia and PD
I’m planning on having Morton’s neuroma surgery in a few weeks, unless I chicken out! I’m concerned about any negative effects because of anesthesia . I’m going to check to see if doing some type of block instead of General, is a possibility. Has anyone had that operation, or have experience with different

Lab Tests Indicate High Lipase
Has anyone taking prednisone and Actemra had a high lipase on their routine lab tests. I’m on 4 mg prednisone and bi-weekly injections of Actemra for GCA. I get lab tests every month, and the past several months Lipase is high (usually around 60-70). I’ve done a CT scan with the dye, and was told

Cataract surgery imminent
I have
cataract
surgery
scheduled for next Wednesday 1st February for both eyes. It is being done privately at a hospital nearby and the opthalmic surgeon is very experienced and has a very good reputation. I have GCA and am currently taking 35 mg of prednisolone daily.

Stopped Actemra, new questions
Hi community, I decided to stop Actemra after 1 year so I am not on so many drugs. I was concerned about the risk of infections, diverticulitis, etc. I figured that so many people have done this with only Prednisone, that I can too. Here's what has happened since. I stopped Actemra 1 month ago. I
