I thought I was in the theatre for a long time and discovered that part of the cataract had gone into the back of my eye and they could not retrieve it or put the new lens in. I was told that there is a 2% risk of this which could be worse if short sighted and receiving injections for macular conditions.
I now have to have tablets for high ocular pressure and steroid drops and antibiotic drops.
I am to see a consultant on Monday for assessment and hopefully an appointment will be made for removal of the cataract piece and for the new lens to be put in. Fingers crossed for me

I'm really sorry to hear this Koalajane, what a disappointment for you. Hopefully, soon they'll be able to remove the cataract piece and all will be well. They say these things are there to try us and try us they certainly do. All the best and let us know how it all goes. x
goodness me that’s bad luck Koalajabe. Realise how lucky I was that both mine went without a hitch, although I did need stitches. Everything crossed that you get an appointment soon and a good final outcome x
thank you so much. I have mine crossed too. Just had a fight with my antibiotic eye drops. A real struggle to squeeze the plastic bottle, I think because they have to be kept in the fridge. My eyes are confused too with not having the lens in, everything is blurry in that eye so not sure where to point it at!
it went very well. I had the vitrectomy done by a junior consultant overseen by his senior(who was lovely) and the new lens inserted. It was a week later. I had to have eye drops for about a month after as the pressure was up, at one stage having drops every hour. This bottle was a night, pmar, it was timorous and I had to read the patient information leaflet just to get into it and get any drops out. Waiting to hear now when my next eye will be done,
That is so scary. This is why I talk to my Dr. a lot about getting the surgery. I have a different decide but get the same injection. What I have is already rare and only have one good eye. I am just so scared something although it is slim might go wrong.
Sorry to hear the unfortunate result. I had both cataracts replaced last year and ever since I've had a dark spot in the center of one eye that wasn't there before. Makes that eye nearly useless. I am wondering if a similar thing happened to me. Doc says its atrophy.
thank you, waiting for a call to tell me when it will happen.
The opthamologist I saw yesterday is happy to do it in one go but had to speak to my consultant and then book a theatre. We waited a while but his calls were unsuccessful so he said to go home and we will get a phone call. Patience now
really hope it’s sorted soon my Dad had something even worse happen if you can imagine that! And it was his first cataract removal it made him very nervous for the next one to be done and it took a lot of skill to mend the mistake that was made which they apologised for. I am having mine under GA as mine are complicated due to many other eye issues. They will do my eye with no central vision due to diabetic eye disease as that is the one also heading for gluacoma as I have ocular hypertension but won’t do the eye I see out of until they really have to. It’s going to be very fiddly they have said but being under GA gives them time to do it slowly and carefully and me not to worry what they are saying!!!!
I am having a vitrectomy on Monday morning so they can remove the cataract part and the new lens will be put in then too, all under local anaesthetic. Fingers crossed all goes really well
I had a vitrectomy and cataract surgery on my left eye for a macular hole, about 3 months ago. If you have a gas bubble in your eye and have to do the ‘face down’ thing for a week as I did, I do recommend you hire a chair from the Face Down Support company. I could watch tv, read from my tablet and it was so comfortable I often dozed off on it.
I have gp had my vitrectomy this morning and all went very well. So munch so that they were able to put the new lens in. Fingers crossed I will be able to see well out of it. Not sure yet as have the eye pad and shield on it
