Question For The Board
Casodex
has fewer side effects because T is not lowered but DHT is still a problem. I just read a study where
Casodex
+ Avodart was just as effective as Lupron in controlling PCa. So, why take Lupron when you can take
Casodex
+ Avodart and lessen so many of the side effects of Lupron therapy.

Elgie Starting Xtandi
He says that if it is....then the
casodex
is not working so he changed him to Xtandi. Wondering what we should expect from Xtandi. He will start him out on two pills and hopefully work him up to 4 which makes me wonder about the side effects if he can get to 4.

Non-PCa Prescription Drugs: Valproic Acid / Valproate
Aim of this study was to evaluate whether the PTEN downmodulation, observed during bicalutamide {
Casodex
} treatment, was due to epigentic events." "... 54 and 68% of primary cultures displayed detectable amounts of PTEN protein and mRNA, respectively."

GOING FOR IT!
My urologist according to his cancer nurse, would not prescribe
casodex
tablets for my cancer whether it was T2 or T3 though in his letter things are more ambiguous as he says he cannot rule out T3 and it says localised advanced prostate cancer would have
casodex
prescribed - well T3 in the Prostate

Hot Flashes
Been on intermittent lupron +
casodex
since 2011. Have hot flashes every 45 minutes, even when off treatment. Have found nothing that works. Am thinking of estrodil patch. Anyone have any experience with this? Joe

Bicalutamide (Casodex) plus Dutasteride (Avodart)
The rationale behind the combination of
Casodex
& Avodart was articulated in a 2009 paper [2]: "Bicalutamide blocks androgen action in men with prostate cancer but has low affinity for the androgen receptor compared to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Currently on Lupron with
Casodex
recently added and also a swarm of other issues; kidney stones, urosepsis, now arthritis. Basic treatment was HDR brachetherapy since no surgery possible; not the implants but 18 steel rods through crotch into prostate where they felt cancer was.

4 month Casodex + radiation
He suggested a course of
Casodex
for 4 mos with radiation and 28 months of Lupron. No Dx or node involvement at this time. I am not interested in the 28 months of Lupron now, I most likely will have time for that later. But I am considering the 4 months of
Casodex
with the radiation.

Husband is Stage IV Metastatic to Bones with Rising PSA
He was put on one month of
Casodex
and received his first Lupron shot on 3/10 and started RT on 3/22. We were told surgery was out because it had spread so much. We met with oncologist who set up chemo for after radiation.

Anyway, a 2015 paper reported that
Casodex
& Xtandi (both antiandrogens) could resensitize PCa to Taxotere by inhibiting ABCB1 efflux.

Casodex and ADT
Where does
Casodex
fit in? I've been on Lupron for six years, and had one ninety day course of
Casodex
during this time. And this was recent. I'm wondering if this may have been another screw up by my previous uro. Thanks, Joe

My New Normal
Urologist suggested Lupron shot immediately followed by a month of
Casodex
. Scans were ordered and lymph node involvement was present. Nothing was showing present in bones. I was in utter disbelief at everything that was being thrown at me.

Strontium to preserve bone integrity
So far my bone density test is normal, but there are changes after 3+ years of Lupron and
Casodex
. My goal is continue the active sports so I don't think about women (LOL). I get knocked down, but I get up again, no fractures, little pain other than muscular. Any thoughts on strontium.

I chose instead to do Intermittent Androgen Blockade therapy using Zoladex and
Casodex
. That enabled me to keep the cancer at bay for a long time while enjoying life traveling, writing and doing volunteer work. A few months ago, I reached CRPC so I am now at a crossroads.
