Reducing cholesterol
I have lived with high cholesterol otherwise healthy. I am overweight with BMI of 31. I referred to lipid clinic and am advised to use statins. I do not want to go on statins. Any advice on best way to change diet and lifestyle would be great.

A footnote on Sjogren's Syndrome. While researching it yesterday, I came across another auto immune syndroms called Sicca's Syndrome. This syndrome actually causes the dry mouth, dry eyes behind Sjogren's. Listen carefully as I try hard to explain this. Those who have Sjogren's have Sicca too. It is

To take or not take Statins?
LDL-C 161, CT Calcium score 979, passed a stress test, no symptoms. My Cardiologist wants me to take 40mg Lipitor. From my research it seems the benefits of a statin are over stated and the potential problems understated. How can one find out if high choleterol is causing ones athrosclorosis. Many people

Lowering cholesterol
I am intolerant to statins, having tried 4 without success! My levels are creeping back up. I have a good diet, don’t drink or smoke. Has anyone had any success with plant sterols/stanols? Or anything else.

Statins and Alzheimers
After my bypass surgery in March 2015, I was given a statin drug specifically, Rosuvastatin, 10 mg per day. After several follow up meetings with my cardiologist he gradually increased this to 30 mg per day. Initially I didn't experience any side-effects but by the 6 month I began to experience severe

Fibromyalgia and statins
Via CT scan I have recently been diagnosed with dense calcification to LAD, but because I reacted badly to the dye used in the scan the images were not good enough to assess properly. I am awaiting a myocardial perfusion and in the meantime have been put on aspirin and bisoprolol and a statin. I suffer

Does Coenzyme Q10 Reduce Statin-Related Muscle Aches?
New York Times piece questioning usefullness of CoQ10. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/05/well/live/does-coenzyme-q10-reduce-statin-related-muscle-aches.html Q. Whats up?
Hi, I was diagnosed with diabetes around 3 years ago. I then got IGA neuropathy. I came off steroids about 2 months ago and kidney function increased a lot. Still on low dosage of mycophenolate. A few months ago I started getting pain in my fingers. This pain now in my feet, my back, my hips and my elbows

I came across this video this morning on Youtube and thought everyone would find it of interest: https://youtu.be/nS0Qr7wRr9o The name of the doctor is identified in the video. Eat right, move, supplement and measure regularly! Accountability is the key to changing habits.

Enzalutamide NFG* for me. Clinical trials beckon.
* NFG = No good. I finished up 9 cycles of docetaxal in July in a chemo-resistant state and started on Enzalutamide. Unfortunately Enza has done absolutely nothing. No impact on disease progression at all. I remain on Zolodex of course and MO added metformin and statins to my cocktail of drugs to

Correlation is not Causation - suggestion for BHF
Hi - some studies here in Oz have shown many patients stop taking their statins because they get muscle soreness, a fairly rare side effect. The muscle soreness is often just their bodies adjusting to exercise (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and there is anecdotal evidence that medications get blamed

IFAB negative - should I pursue diagnosis?
Hi I'm new here and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to proceed with my GP? I'm 55 years old and for the last year or so I have been suffering from hot flashes, extreme fatigue, depression, palpitations and back pain. I had a heart attack 6 years ago so my GP investigated for heart arrythmia
