Statin withdrawal
I have had to stop statins which I have taken for about 10 years now because of severe leg cramping during the night. The withdrawal symptoms are painful but not excruciating pain like cramping. I have added Collagen supplements very recently and have ordered some CoQ10 for help.

Statins
Hi, my GP said it is very important for me to take statins. I have tried 3 different brands of statins and with all I get pain in my thighs when walking. My pace has slowed down gradually since having AF. I miss going on a brisk walk. I don’t know if this is AF related or from taking statins. I have

Unblocking Mild Atherosclerosis with Meds
Hi, following a second Angiogram two weeks ago, my Cardiologist told me that there were two further Arteries with 'mild' Atherosclerosis and would be treated with medication (I had two other Arteries Stented earlier in June). I was prescribed Isosorbide Mononitrate for my Angina issues but nothing new

Neurological issues/underactive thyroid link?
Hi I've had a mixed year health-wise and overall a few bad years with wrong diagnosis and tests. To explain, I was diagnosed with cerebrovascular disease a year ago following an MRI. I refused to take statins or even aspirin (as I had a bad reaction to it). The neurologists revised this diagnosis to

"Is antidyslipidemic statin use for cancer prevention a promising drug repositioning approach?"
New paper: "Novel pharmacological therapies are in development for cancer, ranging from conventional chemotherapeutic drugs to molecular targeted drugs, antibody-based drugs, and immune checkpoint inhibitors, which are developed using new technologies. However, the increasing cost of new drug development

underactive thyroid
I am on low dosage of levothyroxine and am now suffering from Baker's cyst. Not feeling too bad really but not sure about statins I was advised to take.

Why I want to research active microbiome therapies for Parkinsons
Why I think the microbiome is key (Stick with it – links to poo coming up…) Having been diagnosed with PD, and offered regular Sinemet therapy, I resolved to look for alternatives and hope for a cure. Dopamine – whilst central to PD and effectively the definition of the disease, appears to be only part

Reference ranges for blood levels versus symptoms
Why do Doctors dwell mostly on exact ranges for thyroid results and not symptoms ? My TSH is often raised but not enough for the G.P. I feel the cold, always tired, cholesterol of 8 despite excellent diet, low ferritin and family history of hypothyroid.. I had persistent headaches with low dose Thyroxin

If you ever have doubts...
If you ever have doubts about being vegan remember this: I had 4 CABGs before stents were in wide use, 1997. After years of medication for high blood pressure, I have been on a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) diet since March and the evidence of my blood pressure (117/70), cholesterol (2.7) and pulse (

Taking Folic Acid and Vitamin D3 with Oatmeal ?
I have oatmeal (Porridge) in the morning for breakfast. I do this because I have high cholesterol and GP put me on statins but I don’t take statins because adjusting my diet and especially having Oatmeal works very well and lowers the cholesterol so I never take statins. So my question is Oatmeal absorbs

Rehabilitation
Hi I’m on my second week of rehab and it’s great! I was told 2 weeks ago I had unstable angina, so that was the reason I got a stent fitted as I had a nstemi. I am pleased to say my nurse told me today I no longer have unstable angina as I’m on medicine. I also got echocardiogram results and it showed

Butter nonsense: the rise of the cholesterol deniers
This is a fairly long article in the Guardian about the disagreement between those who believe the cholesterol hypothesis and those who do not. Not one single word about thyroid in any guise - so far as I could see. We have had a lot of discussion about cholesterol here over the years.
Please

UnderActive Thyroid & Heart Problems.
Hi All, Can anyone please give me advice on what "Heart Meds" to take with Thyroxin. I take 100mcg Thyroxin daily. I had an ECG in June because of recurring Chest Pain & The Cardio Nurse at my local Hospital says that I most likely had a Mild Heart Attack in Feb when I first had the symptoms.. She

Thrush
The other day hubby noticed something on my lower lip. I thought maybe it was just chapped (always dry since gamma knife several yrs ago) or maybe irritated at dentist a few days before. Then I noticed 3-4 more small white patches my lower lip last evening. No other lesion mouth or tongue. I think it

Statins anti inflammatory effect on arthritis?
My docs say no, I say “ what say you?”. I reluctantly agreed to take Lipitor 80 mg daily( Atorvastatin) as my cholesterol continues to rise in spite of my exercise, healthier eating and 45 lb wt loss😢. I was skeptical as all I’ve heard were negatives re side effects. After 3 mo, no side effects yet

Could this be Angina related?
Currently suffering from what I can only describe as severe at times...pain radiating at the back of neck both below the earlobe and travelling down into shoulders Very hard to tilt head or move side to side And often is in tandem with chest pain I'm still experiencing often these days. I really don't

Is Atorvastatin causing my anxiety?
Hi, I was happily on Simvastatin for years, then my GP changed me to Atorvastatin because a blood test showed that my cholesterol was high. A few weeks after starting the Atorvastatin I developed horrible anxiety, bad dreams and my husband says I spend all night jumping around and twitching (no wonder

Hemochromatisis with a Ferritin of 394.0 ug/L - range for women is - 13.0 - 150.0 yg/L -
For a very long time I have been looking around to help myself to move forward in understanding my thyroid disorder so I hope that this makes sense (especially to my two tutors)! I think there might or could be a link between my raised Ferritin and some family members including my mother who died in
