Non floor exercises

Hello, I would love to start doing some actual exercises, but nearly all have ones to do on the floor. I can not kneel or do anything on the floor, so has anyone got any advice on what kind of exercises I can do? I have osteoarthritis in my knees and a back that needs replaced when the technology’s come in, but until then I just have to try and adapt ones to do without having to lie on the floor. Any tips would be brilliant. Thank you.

Having used them in the past after injury ,I know there are a lot of non floor exercises around. I'll look out some links . I'm sure you'll get more helpful replies here as well.

There are quite a few listed here. I use a fair few as I have a neck issue that hampers many exercises on the floor.

Amy does a whole series of short workouts too that may be put together for a longer workout. She does a set of seated ones too including dumbbell workouts.

Hia,

Welcome! Great to have you here. My first advice would be to see if you could ask your physiotherapist, as they always can devise the best targeted exercises for someone’s needs. But until then, maybe the following might give you some ideas.

But definitely listen to your body. I also have sensitive knees and was almost unable to get up from the floor when I started. It’s much better now. But the back is involved in so many movements that it’s hard to avoid! But so well done for looking into it.

As mentioned a physio could design you the perfect exercises for your body and your level. But until then, here are some playlists of follow along workouts. There are a few sitting workouts, as well as standing ones.

-YWA standing yoga youtube.com/playlist?list=P...

- seated yoga youtube.com/playlist?list=P...

- And we have a folder for workouts that are targeted at particular areas, also often good for those on the injury couch. So there might be some workouts in there which fit your needs. healthunlocked.com/strength...

- NHS has also a series of seated exercises: nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/s...

And as everything, start very slowly and in baby steps. A little gets you a long way!

Definitely come back and tell us how you fare. We are quite successful in cheering each other on here! 😃😄💪👍🏽🧘🏽

In addition to the sound advice already given, you might also checkout team body project on you tube or here teambodyproject.com/ . Free to join to have access to many routines, standing, seated, adapted and a knee friendly program. Very supportive community. I now pay for more content and programs, but used their knee friendly program for a while do keep moving after a knee injury.

Lucy Wyndham-Read has lots of exercise routines on her YouTube channel, suitable for all levels: youtube.com/user/LWRFitness... Her website is here: lwrfitness.com/free-challen... . I started doing her routines after I had major surgery 2 years ago and have followed her ever since. I don't like having to get down on the floor either so I find her routines excellent for me (& you don't need any equipment either, another bonus for me). Good luck

The Wheels charity has exercises online. A young lady called Ella has put a series of wheelchair based exercises online through them, which I found really useful when I had broken my ankle.I'll try and find a link.

There are also a few Pilates classes online which are seated.
