I've been running for a few years now. I'm married for 18 years to a Pilates Instructor and I've never done Pilates or Yoga. Absolutely ridiculous 😀. I don't do Strength and Flex work either. However I have decided to start a 12 week running program and it consists of 2 days per week of Strength and Flexibility work plus interval training, hill repeats and slower longer runs.
So from Monday I'll be starting some Strength and Flexibility work. I'll pop along here for some idea's and advice.

Good luck to you damienair on starting some Strength and Flexibility work, that should help you with your times at parkrun, who knows you might even be able to achieve a sub 25 minute 5K. 😊 🏃🏾
Good to see you over here, damienair ! You just missed the matness here... It continues to fascinate me that men seem to think Pilates isn't for them. It was developed by a guy! And Joe (supposedly) couldn't stand ballet dancers, at least at first...
Matness?!? No, not a typo 😉 It is an annual event started by Benjamin Degenhardt to celebrate Joe Pilates' original mat sequence. Here's the summary post we put together last year and followed again this March: healthunlocked.com/strength...
My wife has a couple of guys who attend her classes, but yes the majority are ladies. She also does sports injury massage and like that I don't take advantage of her skills for sports injury massage either. I'm a hopeless case 😀. Bit by bit I'll add some Pilates moves into a routine under her tutelage.
I know how it feels coming back to running longer distances again. I’m also finally back to being able to run continuously for an hour (but probably reaching same distance as you in 30 min 🤣🤣)
And of course we expect every S&F-er to be able to do this:
I was chatting with my lovely wife earlier about my plans. She quizzed me on the exercises I was planning to do. After I told her she politely smiled and suggested that I do some Flexibility exercises as well. 😁 Turns out my plan was just Strenght. So I’ll be involving Mrs damienair as a consultant to get me going by including some flexibility exercises too.

Go team! And yes, of course, wives are always (ALWAYS!) right! 😆 (I happen to be a wife myself, so I know) 🤣🤣🤣
When I first started pilates there were NO blokes. Now there are a few regulars, and although I've yet to persuade my other half, at least he does some post-run stretches since a nasty episode of shin splints (I shouldn't laugh, but honestly 🤭)
Hello... I missed you ! Here you are at last and there is as you see a wealth of stuff to choose from. My advice, is, listen to the wife... and then;
Choose what you feel you need.... choose something you will enjoy... in my book if you do not choose and enjoyable routine then you won't maintain it.
Think of time constraint too. There a wealth of great 10 minute, 20 minute workouts that can be linked together to make an excellent short, yet impacting plan.
Look at your daily life and activities and how everyday activities can be turned into a workout!
