My exercise session this afternoon.

I’m visiting my Dad for a few days and he is in his 80’s, since January he has been going to an exercise class twice a week, along side using his exercise bike at home. The classes came because he had a tumble last year and they suggested he needed better core strength, the fall scared him into taking action.

Today’s class was a little bit hard for me on an emotional level as I had to admit I was now in the 50 and over exercise bracket 😂😂😂, a little dent to my ego as I admitted I wasn’t too young to be there, bless, the instructor she had said I could join even though I was underage, to which I had to say No I’m not 😳.

The class was fun and so good for stretches and a gentle increase of the heart rate, such a well thought out program where you could do what you could manage and everyone worked within their own capabilities. All age groups (over 50) and a lovely atmosphere.

I even found another good hamstring stretch to add in to my routine.

Afterwards a coffee and a chat for everyone, I met some of Dads new friends. In the last 6 months his walking has just got better and better from these classes.

The cost £2.00 including coffee...... amazing and such good fun.

So if you are daunted by starting off with exercise and are over 50 have a look to see what your area has to offer, it is a great place to start without having to join a gym.

Fab ! There are some great opportunities out there. Well done your Dad too - it’s so easy to think it’s too late to change.

There is so much there, I really wish doctor surgeries would have a proactive health board with all these facilities, it took us six months to find this one. My Dad is great with these things, hehe we both have a bit of a stubborn streak when it comes to not giving thing up because of age. 😂😂😂

That’s a great inheritance - love it ! GPs should do quarterly newsletters 😀

It really gets to me, I will be honest. Everyone is so quick to say what people are not doing all the time but never patting people on the back for what they are doing, I do think that a letter or email or anything to anyone who would benefit would make such a difference and would be so easy to do, if all the takeaway places can afford a leaflet I’m sure the doctors could and even get local business to pay for it. Ooooooo I could rant for hours on this. 😂😂😂.

It’s hard to find a coffee for £2 these days!

At least she thought you were too young to be there... that’s gotta be good!

Sounds like a great idea... but I’m too young 😛

It was good that she thought I was younger, a bit of a boost 😀, It was such a bargain, so much available when you know about it.

Ps, she was 44 so you could always run a class 😉.

I’m looking at taking the run leader course as it happens... then maybe the coaching one. My running club (that seems a strange combination of words 🤣) run a version of C25K called Pub to Parkrun, so I’d love to get involved with that.

There certainly is... I happened upon a running group the other day doing warmups in the park. They were doing that funny sideways run where feet go behind and in front in a set pattern, I forget the name... starts with a C... when I last tried it it was a great way of falling over 😂

How could you find this opportunity? Is it run by the council?

Every class around here is 'uncheap'.

We came across it by accident in my Dads area. He was prescribed an exercise session but it folded within 6 weeks of him starting. 6 months later and nothing had happened so we went to look for what was available. It started with an Internet search for exercise class for senior citizens and this forum for the over 50’s came up and from That he has found two different classes one on a Monday and one on a Friday, I really wish I could say look at this website and all the exercise groups would be there but right now it is a case of searching and finding. Maybe if one of our members who has internet knowledge could help us we could come up with a data base that we could search and that would be brilliant 😀.
