As a sufferer of arthritis of 20 years I haven't found anything that takes the pain away, some help like co codamol which I take. Some take tramadol but I was allergic to them and they are addictive. I do take a low dose amitriptyline at night as it helps me get a bit of sleep.

Hello, I have suffered from arthritis in my right elbow and now right lower thiumb. Very painful as I am sure you know. I am almost 66. I take a natural herb every day in the morning and afternoon and before bed if needed. It is called Turmeric. I get it from Puritans Pride on the web since they have excellent product and very reasonable prices. I am also a Catholic. And believe it or not, I put holy water on both places every morning and evening. It is very soothing and helps tremendously. Finally, praying helps me.

Hello Alan,

I am taking "Longtec" slow release oxycodone and "shortec liquid" fast release oxycodone. Also Cocodamol and gabapentin.

The longtec is very useful as it's one pill morning and one evening, then a dose of the liquid Shortec if the pain becomes really bad. That is most of the time for me.

A lot of Dr's don't like prescribing oxycodone as it is addictive. My answer to that is; at the age of Fifty eight given the amount of excruciating pain I'm in. I don't really care. Anything so I can get about.

Good luck Alan. I hope you find a painkiller that suits you.

Take care. Regards. Mark.

Hi Alan,

it is great of you to reach out. I will tell you what helped me and gave me great relief from all the pain. I found that some herbs have actually been used over centuries to fight arthritis and joint pains. Such as Boswellia, Ginger and Turmeric Curcumin. What I did was to search for products made from these natural herbal extracts. I found some really great producers and gave it a try. I will tell you with all honesty, this helped me like a miracle

Do you know if you can take Turmeric when on Methotrexate please? I have heard really good feedback about it - both for animals and humans! I assume so as it’s only a spice but have fell foul of an otc purchase once before (glucosamine as recommended by Arthritis UK) because it detrimentally impacts on the way Methotrexate works. Thanks

hi, honestly I did not know how it would react with drugs for arthritis but I check online and it says that it may decrease the effectiveness of Methrotexate and the side effects it may produce. But the drug that i used and what helped me, containing all these ingredients I have mentioned has been used to fight against arthritis as well and provides support and relief to your joints

Thank you for your advice, I am considering Turmeric as a possible herb to use, a close friend advised me similarly. Good luck and thanks.

See a rhuematogly person and probably you might get methotrexate

Hi Alan, I like to use an ice pack. I freeze water in one of those red hot or cold bags, then I put it a pillowcase and place it on my lower back while I sleep. I also take Shaklee joint health complex twice a day and when I am in a lot of pain, I take 2 1/2 extra strength acetaminophen every 6 hours. I take a lot of Shaklee supplements, including calcium, magnesium, B complex, and their strawberry protein drink. Make sure you get enough sleep. That helps a lot. I also like using the foam roller to exercise and keep my back flexible. They cost about $15 at Walmart. My back Dr recommended it. Try Virgil's root beer soda. It is all natural and has no preservatives. It won't help with arthritis, but it is soooo... good. Reward yourself with a root beer float! Use the Turkey Hill all natural vanilla ice. cream. Hang in there! Despite the pain, you are aging gracefully. God bless you.
