hair loss

Hi everyone hope you are all well. I had my first visit to Royal Free Hospital. Thank you all for your suggestions they were so helpful. It was a busy day and so much information to take in.

All my questions were answered except about major hair loss as I got told it was just menopause. I totally disagree with this as it is really bad. My hairdresser also agrees with me. Just wondering if anyone is suffering/suffered with this?

By the way if anyone has a visit scheduled to Royal Hospital and appointments are spaced out like mine were. Hubby and I went to Camden Market . Only 2 miles away. Hopped in a taxi and spent 3hrs walking round and had lunch. A great visit if it works out for you.

so glad you enjoyed an upside! The other good place (in better weather) is a walk on Hampstead Heath. As long or short ad you like and a lot of the paths would be scooter-able.

Hi. I’m glad it went well for you at Royal Free and that you enjoyed a trip to Camden market.

I had hair loss badly along with eczema when I was a child and then again post gestation-ally. In my case it was Alopecia Areate which is autoimmune and it only resolved when I was found to be hypothyroid in my 40s and put on a high dose of thyroid replacement therapy, which I’ve taken ever since.

I would think a lot depends on what were you told diagnostically about your symptoms. Will you be returning to Royal Free and did they suggest treatments? If you have been diagnosed with systemic sclerosis or another connective tissue disease then treatments might hopefully help your hair loss. Otherwise would it be worth asking your GP for a trial of HRT to see if it’s menopausal as they say? Hormones definitely played a part in mine but for me it was thyroid hormones

Aren't they so absolutely brilliant at Royal Free 😊 May I ask who you saw?

And great shout about Camden (although it's not as good as it used to be and has changed somewhat with modern times.). And a Hampstead walk is also a must.

I saw one of the ‘sub’ doctors. Really nice guy. Will try Hampstead next time. My lovely white trainers would not have enjoyed it !

I had the same problem with hair thinning, especially at the sides. My hairdresser suggested skin, hair, and nails vitamins; it worked a treat for me. I think my hair thinning was due to not absorbing nutrients because of excess stomach acid and digestive problems caused by systemic sclerosis. Worth a try, though; it worked a treat for me.

I noticed a difference after about 3 weeks of starting them, so did my hairdresser, so keep on them, don't expect them to work after a couple of days, hopefully youll be as pleased as i am, let me know how you get on with them?

Hi Bickyn

So glad you had a positive appointment at Royal Free. They really are an amazing team.

In terms of the hair loss, this was pretty significant for me - I had really thick, volumous hair and I would say I lost 2/3’s of that volume- it was incredibly upsetting - clumps coming out in the shower had me in tears.

They were not sure if it was the disease or one of the meds I was on.

My hair volume has improved- am taking omega 3 supplements, have come off some meds and disease stable so not sure which helped.

Sorry this isn’t specific but I guess I’m saying there is light at the end of the tunnel - my hair not exactly as it was but better than the worst it was.
