Back pain

Hi guys I've been experiencing back pain in my lower back, tailbone area. If I sit or lie down I really struggle to get back up without being in agony. It feels like my tailbone is pressing upwards on my spine and it starts to feel like its going to crack if I try stand up. All I did was sneeze a few weeks ago and from there it's been agony. I'm taking paracetamol and ibuprofen maximum doses and amitriptyline but nothing is helping. I've tried Heat rub and voltarol gel too.

I have very similar pain. I pulled my groin muscles about 2 months ago, moving furniture. That caused a bad pain for a week or so and then started to get better. After about 6 weeks it was nearly better and then the pain shifted to my tailbone/ buttock and got really intense. Physio said it was inflammation of the sacroiliac joint, so she is working on it and I have exercises to do. Like you I am on maximum ibuprofen and paracetamol, but it has not improved.....well, it does seem a bit better and then gets worse again. I am walking with a stick but can’t walk any distance .it is very debilitating.

Lying down is painful but it is much worse getting up. Turning in bed and twisting to get into a car can be excruciating. Sitting and getting up from sitting is not too bad.

Good luck with your physio. I hope it helps!

I went to the physio and he said I had deep muscle spasms in my upper back, I got stimulation therapy, ultrasound therapy and then massage therapy too, my back is very sore today but hopefully I'll see progress. It's got me really down as I'm young and want to be out doing things but with the pains I feel I can't.

I had sacroiliac pain like Redtree , i had various treatments and the only one that worked for me was a guided steroid injection. I hope the pain settles so as it is very disabling 🌸

Did you see a GP, I have been seeing a GP for joint pain for a few months now but when I said about the back pain being no step closer to being better he referred for physio without assessing wether it was muscular or something else.

I was seen by orthopaedic consultant after physio etc didn’t work for me

I don’t want to scare you, but If you have had joint pain for a few months it may be a good idea to ask your GP for a blood test to check that you are not developing any connective tissue disorder e.g scleroderma. The treatment for these diseases is much more effective if caught early.

Re your back pain, I hope that you improve soon. I am about to have an X-ray for mine as the physio suspects that I might have a fracture !

Best wishes

The very least you should be aiming for is a scan to try and get to the bottom of why you are in such pain, your GP should be more proactive in facilitating this. Pain killer's are not the answer get your problem investigated quicker than quick. If you are looking to do some exercise then a very gentle swim is beneficial, do that and nothing else because you could do more harm exercising to much. Good Luck.

I really hope the GP will listen, I'm gonna speak to him again. I can't keep living like this, the pain is excruciating, I want to cry every time I stand up.

I know it’s hard but it can be enormously helpful to let the GP see you when you upset and frustrated. As others have said this could be the beginnings of a connective tissue disease or something else. Even with a diagnosis of this my local physio was no help, you need to push for a scan of your back to see what’s going on and if needed a referral to a consultant. Good Luck!
