Can anyone advise when is the best time to take magnesium? I currently take Ferrous Fumarate in the morning on an empty stomach with a glass of orange juice. With breakfast I take 75 mg Sertraline plus Vitamin B complex and Vitamin D. At lunchtime I take Thyroxine as it has to be taken 4 hours apart from the iron. At night I take 300 mg of Pregabalin 2 hours before bed and 1mg Clonazepam just as I go to sleep. I know magnesium helps with RLS as I used to use a magnesium cream before being prescribed Pregabalin so thought I might take a supplement as extra insurance as well as its other benefits. But I don’t want it to interact with anything else.

Magnesium should be taken at night. So should your iron as it is taken up at night more by the brain . Magnesium, calcium or zinc even in a multivitamin should betaken at least 2 hours apart since they interfere with the absorption of iron. Also antacids interfere with its absorption so should be taken at least 4 hours before the iron or at least 2 hours after. Don't take your iron tablets before or after exercise since inflammation peaks after a workout. Don't take tumeric as it can interfere with the absorption of iron or at least take it in the morning if you take your iron at night.

Are you aware that Sertraline triggers RLS?

Yes I’m very well aware. I was onSertraline previously but stopped it because the RLS was so unbearable. I tried other anti depressants but none agreed with me. I went back on it gradually once the dosage of 300 mg Pregabalin was established and it’s absolutely fine now.

That's great! So pleased for you. I too found once my RLS was under control that I could take some things that otherwise would have made my RLS worse.
