I have read here of several different types of Magnesium to take for RLS. In my case it is Periodic Limb Movement as well. I take Magnesium Citrate 2x 100 mg. But I have heard people mention Magnesium Malate and Glycinate. Could Sue Johnson or anyone tell me which they think is best?
which Magnesium?: I have read here of... - Restless Legs Syn...
which Magnesium?
Magnesium glycinate is the one usually recommended taken at night. However if you have constipation than the one you are taking is recommended.
Hi Sue and all, I was beside a guy in a vitamins etc shop yesterday who rejected some magnesium tablets because they were citrate. I will shop to see if I can find magnesuim glycinate. (I live in Thailand). I had my serum iron levels checked via a fasting blood test and the result was 170.4 - well within the scale of 33 - 193. I asked for my ferritin levels to be checked also but I think this may have got lost in the translation as I don't think they appeared on the results unless ferritin is also know as UIBC / TIBC / TSAT. Being a diabetic I am on Metformin which I have moved to 12noon from 8pm to see if it makes a difference. It's early days but there does seem to be an improvement. My glucose level was 112 instead of being within 70 -90, so this may (?) have a bearing on things. I need to reduce sugar anyway ! Magnesium and calcium were both within range, so I guess I need to consider CBD oil now. Hoping my experience is useful for other members. Thanks
Next time ask for a full iron panel. Stop taking any iron supplements 48 hours before the test, don't eat a heavy meat meal the night before and fast after midnight. Have your test in the morning before 9 am if possible. The normal blood test won't give ferritin and no it is not also known as UIBC/TIBC/TSAT. What was your TSAT?
Thanks Sue - I have not been on iron tablets because I am on blood thinners following a Pulmonary Embolism 7 years ago and have been advised not to take them, but I have heard of a 'gentle' form of iron so perhaps this would be safe to take. My TSAT (%) result was 41.940
The only advantage to gentle iron is that it is gentle on the stomach.
I have researched it and it is very complicated. I would check with your doctor.
In any case you can get your ferritin checked. If it is below 100 you can try to increase it with iron containing foods which won't interact with your blood thinner.
Thank you for this.
Some people have had good luck with dietary sources of magnesium - pumpkin seeds (150mg/1oz) and cacao powder. Other nuts and seeds have plenty also veggie sources. More here...
Just make sure your body does not have to much Magnesium in you. Might want to get a blood work done, to see your Magnesium levels are at.
