I have been on 1500 mg of gabapentin which completely controls my RLS but since about a month and a half ago about once a week, I do have RLS symptoms. I talked to my doctor today and he suggested I try magnesium. For those who have found it helpful: 1) How much magnesium do you take? 2) How far apart from taking gabapentin do you take it? 3) How much would interfere with gabapentin's absorption (I take a combination product that contains 168 mg of magnesium and also if I forget to take it in the AM, a multivitamin containing 50 mg) 4) How close to bedtime does it need to be taken? My doctor suggested lunchtime. 5)What form do you take?

Question about magnesium
Gabapentin, even at small doses gave me a horrible hangover. Thank God I found Magnesium. I've been take about 1200mg at night.
Any of the - ates are good. I take mg citrate, about 100mgs in the afternoon.
Take it at least 3 hrs away from the Gabapentin.
Check what triggers might be causing your episodes.
Too much magnesium can give you the runs.
Good luck.
You might try dietary Mg sources - pumpkin seeds and cacao powder. For supplements I take Magtein (magnesium L-Threonate), plus whatever is in my multivitamin. There is also Mg Oil (not really an oil) but a liquid spray you apply to your legs, arms and torso. You could also try epsom salt baths or foot/leg soaks. Epsom salt is high in Mg.

I have read other people on this site who swear by CALM. It's a powder (comes in flavors like orange) which you put in a cup of water. The directions are on it. The people I read start with the amount on the container and work their way up. I ordered it off Amazon and read all of the comments. I just got it so I can't say anything about it yet.
I take 300mg: 100 in the early evening and 200 before bedtime. I had been on pramipexole for 20 years before augmentation set in. I was on .75 mg of pramipexole and have since reduced to .125 for 3 years. I am able to stay on this dose with the help of magnesium, compression socks and a "drug holiday" of 14 days, every 3 to 5 months. I use magnesium glycinate.
