Magnesium supplement for RLS

I have a couple of questions regarding the above:

My functional doctor recommended Magnesium Malate at bedtime for RLS, however, I have seen a few comments on here saying that it shouldn't be taken within 2 hours of medications for RLS (I currently take ropinirole and gabapentin) and I take these between 5pm and when I retire for bed (about 11pm). Should I therefore take it at about 3pm and what are people's opinions on the best form of Magnesium to take? Thanks

Magnesium binds with many medications-- that's why the 2hr separation is recommended.

There is huge conflicting discussion on the best form of mg to take. Basically, any of the 'ates' are ok. Malate, citrate etc.

If you want it for help with sleep or rls, then perhaps 8pm would be a compromise? You could change to 3pm if you find that doesn't work.

Thanks. The 2 hour separation, should that be 1 hour either side, for example, RLS med at 6pm, Mag at 7pm, RLS med at 8pm or should it be something like 6, 8 and 10pm?

No- 2hrs completely separate. 3 if possible.

Hi just read your post and was interested to know do you take your gabapentin and ropinarole at bedtime and how much ropinarole do you take. I was on ropinarole but augmented on it so weaned myself off it but I haven't found anything else that rids the rls symptoms. I am taking pregabalin and wounded if a small amount of ropinarole might help.

Hi Blavit - apologies only just seen your post/question. This is my regime at the moment - Magnesium supplement at about 2pm, 2mg Neupro patch at 4pm, 300mg Gabapentin at 6pm, 1mg ropinirole at 7.45pm, 300mg Gaba at 9.30 and another ropinirole and Gaba at about 10.45. Works for me at the moment. I'm currently waiting to see a neurologist and when I do meet him I'm going to ask him about working to reduce my dopamine agonist intake. I would like to completely come off it and I know that I can safely increase my Gaba intake quite considerably (upto 1800mg per day I think). Have you tried Gabapentin?
