Hello comrades,

I think I've had enough of spending all my money in the pubs and at tesco, 15 quid for 30g golden virginia, green papers included, extra slim filters, various lighters. that lasts a week. 4 pints a night, maybe more, sat out in the cold talking shit. I'm ready to not do this anymore.

I've quit before but I always fall back into the trap after a short while (probably because I've been working in pubs and bars!) But now I've started back at university and got binned from job at a pub I feel like there's nothing in the way.

I've got some niquitine little lozenges and a gym membership. I don't intend on going to the pub to see my friends, I would rather stay home and occasionally just go for food or something.

Looking forward to it. Ready for the phlegm.

Hello dablackgobbo, welcome and well done on your decision to quit. Its never easy but its easier with support from others who have or are going through the same thing and ultimately the best thing you could ever do for yourself.

First things first, write out the pros and cons of smoking and why you want to quit and keep it close to you or somewhere where you can read it.

Make a plan for when cravings hit, this could be going for a walk, breathing exercises, running on the spot, cleaning your teeth. Try and change up your routine so if you normally smoke after dinner, get up and do the dishes. Remember cravings last no longer than 5/6 minutes.

Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated and to flush out the toxins caused by smoking.

Check out the pinned posts which you will find either to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending on the device you are using. There you will find lots of useful tips and information to help you in your quit.

Please let us know your actual quit date, so that we can add you to our database and assign you with a winners badge.

Bye for now.

Welcome Dbg., Well your showing true determination. I wish you well ,I am sure you will succeed this time. :) xx

The cost of a packet of cigarettes is so oppressive, it is almost inconceivable for someone with a mortgage or children or a rented property or all or some of these to even contemplate.

Folk who work in the licensing trade run so many health risks, lifting heavy weights, atmosphere, unsociable hours, eating habits and alcohol. No place for a family man or a married or committed man or woman for very long. An interesting question that brings things into context is to ask yourself when you were not able to run or go to the pub - how many of your drinking friends came to see what was up?

You may of course be different, but when I drank no one came over to see me. When it comes down to it, it is only good friends and family that will care something for you and your well being - and support groups like this for support, but still nothing like the milk of human kindness and warmth although a good dog can be very therapeutic to come home to!

Good for you for making up your mind to do this - just keep positive and pat yourself on the back every day you achieve your goal.

Hey thanks everybody. Today is my quit date :) Really nice messages. I've been for a run today, ate well, drank a lot of water then went to the gym for a thai boxing class, had a good spit on the way home, feeling positive about the future.

My sister-in-law is having a baby soon so I don't want to be smelling of fags, I'd much rather be healthy. Thanks again for supporting me, this is a great website.

Hi there. I stopped almost a year ago, and one reason was that my son and his darling wife had their first baby. I am so proud that I have never been in her presence with smoky clothes or breath, I’ve never had to leave her to go and have my fix. I didn’t stop completely until 2 months after her birth, but I vowed she would not get a whiff of it. My daughter is a paediatrician and told me that exposure to smoke is one of the main causes of cot death. Wish I had done the same for my children, but we can’t turn back time, just make our future better than our past.

The first months were hard, expect to find yourself thinking about alcohol and fags all the time. But now I go days without thinking of it, and when I do, I just feel such relief to be free. And rich!

Best of luck and come here whenever you want , no question too dumb to ask on here.

I did write down all my reasons and stuck them on the fridge, and added to it whenever I thought of a new one. I think it helped.

Mmxx
