Thanks Emjay, i am doing ok, but find i am putting on weight, but like i say, i am challenging life and life is not challenging me, received my quit kit today, so better late than never, i seem to be spending a lot of time on my phone internet browsing, so my cravings seem unimportant less, i started my first long walk today even tackled deep lane, which is just a very steep back road and i have to say i felt proud of myself, no out of breath, that's a daily challenge i do, tomorrow its venturing to the reservoir near where i live, been in my area 24 years and never been, who knows i may even jog round it, been told its a lovely place to go.

Hi Irena, its lovely to meet you and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site :) and a massive well done to youuuuuu for getting to day 15 on your quit :) you hold your head up high and feel proud of yourself :) :) I should think your over the worst now :) cos its usually the first week thats the hardest :o

I see you have met our lovely quit support adviser Emjay :) we try to help each other on here :) but if we cant, then Emjay steps in and helps us :) so please stay with us and let us know how you are going along, and if you have any questions, or want a good old moan, then you just fire away eh :) :)

I think most of us put some ermmmm, weight on during our quit, so dont be worried about that, cos I tell you, if you can beeeeeet the ciggs, you can beeeeeet anything :) :) I dont know ! you sort of get an empty feeling when you quit, so you have to fill it with something else eh :o :D :D Maybe try drinking more water, cos that seems to help :)

Yes, Irena, walking and exercise dosnt just help me with the cravings, but the weight too eh, so am soooo glad your getting out and about, and yes, to the places around where you live tooooo :) :) It sounds lovely where you live :) You get out and explore them lovelies :) :)

Take care now :) Pete :)

monkyAdministratorCake eater in reply to irena

Knitting

Crosswords

Jigsaws

Baking cakes

Spring clean your home, erm, dont mean its dirty :o but it gives you something to do :)

Ermmm, I'm not sure whether you can still get them, but I used to have 2 therapeutic balls that I squeezed in my hands :) It just keeps your hands occupied :) You could get them in different grades of rubber, from soft to medium to hard, sort of thing :)

Welcome Irena,

Congratulations on making the decision to quit :) You will find lots of support in this group and I am sure you will have lots to smile about. Monky does an awesome job at putting a smile on my face with his wit :)

Thanks glolin, the support is fantastic, my will is stronger than its ever been, have tried to quit before, but this time it seems different, but the big test will be in socializing situations, i have one coming up bank holiday weekend.

Love your attitude irena :) You will be fine in social outings :) :) Prepare yourself as a non smoker who is going to still enjoy the company for friends. I think you will find it more doubt your own strength.. I just recently faced first times being around smokers, it was really weird, i kinda felt sorry for them if that makes sense.

Remember this is your journey..and you dont want to go through those first few days again!! :) :)

Good luck and stay true to you xx

Hi hun and well done, you are doing a fantastic job, dont worry about the weight gain just yet, just be proud of the fact you are no longer killing yourself and upping your chance of cancer :) that should keep you motivated :) :)

There are quite a few good post on here about keeping the weight down while quitting, have a look through some of the older posts.

Stay strong and big respect x

Hi irena, congratulations on your quit.:-) :-)

I have put weight on too as many of us have :-(

At times I have suffered from severe bloating, that even bending down to tie my son's shoelaces was a struggle. I've began lowering my carb intake, eating healthier and I have noticed a difference. Well, I won't be running the marathon anytime yet :-) but I do feel less bloated and have been walking more and been swimming twice in the last week.

I have also just downloaded a book on my kindle about 5/2 diet, not really sure what it entails yet but think you eat normally/healthy for 5 days and fast for 2. Hmmm........ don't know about that but will have a read anyway. :-)

I'm not being ultra strict as I think my body has to recover from the years of abuse I subjected it to through smoking.

I hoping to lose 10lbs for my holiday in October but even if I don't I will still be a non smoker :-) ;-) xx

irena profile image
irena

You go girl, i think i will down load that book you talk of, day 18 and i feel good, i tend to walk every where, where its possible and i can feel and breathe the improvement, i hope you lose the weight before your hols, i tend to run up and down the stairs a lot more as i keep forgetting things, i also do step repetitions on the lowest stair, beats paying for a gym membership

shantimar profile image
shantimar in reply to irena

I used to walk everywhere before I quit just so I could have a few extra ciggies before work etc, now i just jump in the car. Sometimes when I stand at the bottom of my stairs its like Mount Everest and I used to run up and down them all the time without thinking. I think I'm going to be one of the ones that get every symptom that quitting smoking brings cos I'm lucky like that. :-)

No sleep, restless legs, sore throat, coughs, colds, quit zits, constipation you name it I have it but looking on the bright side I no longer spend stupid amounts of money on smoking :-) :-)

Can maybe put that money to getting stair lift put in :-D :-D

irena profile image
irena

Don't you dare, says this motto i challenge life, life ain't challenging me, you have overcome a big obstacle which was smoking, just like i have, now i am motivated, i opened a bank account yesterday just for all the cig money i don't spend anymore, its a saving account with rbs, and what's nice it gives you saving goals and in my header it states no more cigs, look on line their are exercises you can do while sitting on a chair, which are just as effective, i have a challenge for you, everytime i am going upstairs i will message you, then you do the same, so don't give up, their is strength in unity.

irena profile image
irena

I am going upstairs now to get my laundry basket, so come get up and get moving

HI again irena, book is 5:2 diet for beginners David Ortner and it was free, my favourite :-)

I have just discovered when I was checking out that book that that there is an Allen Carr of Easyway book on how to lose weight, I'm going to try it as he helped me enormously with quitting smoking.

Wondering if I can eat all I want when I'm reading it, like when you read the Easyway to quit smoking and you can keep smoking:-)

Mmmmm yummmmy think this book will take me a while to read. ;-D

shantimar profile image

irena already been upstairs to pull my son out of bed now thats exercise ;-D

shantimar profile image

irena profile image
irena

droopyJ profile image
droopyJ in reply to irena

ladies ladies.... please stop!!! All this exercise is doing my head in...your making me dizzy :O Shantimar & Irena.... just keep drinking lots of water and trust me nature will take it's course and you will be running up and down the stairs to the toilet :)

If you have one downstairs then don't use it..... ok that's the rule... you HAVE to always use the one upstairs....unless your monky in which case he'll use the one in the garden ;) :) :D
