Good morning Jilly and everyone, the sun's shining again - could be a good day for gardening or spring cleaning to get rid of all the stinky smoke smell for many newbies. Imagine the curtains blowing on the washing line and that lovely fresh air smell as you iron them before hanging them back up again. :)

The reason for Good Friday as a Bank Holiday seems to be disappearing into the mists of time - used to be one of the most religious days of the year and there was hardly anything to do. How times change.

I couldn't get out of bed for my run this morning so am going to take advantage of the weather and quiet roads and have an early-ish bike ride before coming back for my hot cross buns. Have a good day, see you later. :)

Sooooooo, you had a lay in this morning then, it was our Chrissie yesterday, now you today, hmmm, must be something going around eh :o :D Enjoy your bike ride Andi, and of course your hot cross buns :)

Good Morning Monky and all!!! Monky I didn't lie in yesterday, I slept in - there is a difference :).. Now TODAY I had a lie in - and that was lovely :)

Andi I totally agree with you regarding the change in the bank holiday - it is more like another spring bank holiday now which is actually quite sad in a way - times have certainly changed :(

Anyway I intend to be a bit of a domestic goddess today - no I'm not baking cakes - I'm doing some chores with the windows wide open and the music blasting and I shall do a happy dance in the process for all of us on this amazing stop smoking journey - please don't hesitate to join in, I wouldn't mind the company!!! :D :D :D

Whatever you are doing - have a truly wonderful day xxxx :)

Beautiful day here too, so something outdoors it is.

Have a good smoke free day, can't say nic free as I am using the ecig - it is the best nrt I have found, after many attempts.

On a walk yesterday my chest felt a lot better than when I smoked - no surprises there!! It's heading for a week now, yay :)

Can see you whistling down the lanes on your bike Andi, enjoy!

Yesterday Fresher was asking about coughing etc. So I just found this. : -

What to do if you have an infection

The earlier an infection is caught the easier it is

to

treat.

If you are unwell with a chest infection you may become

breathless and you may have more phlegm in your lungs.

To help to clear this try the following:

1. Perform the breathing exercise whenever you have

phlegm in your lungs. This may be as often as every

hour when you are awake.

2. Drink even more water than usual to keep the phleg

m

moist.

Do not stay in bed all day. Activity and movement he

lp you

to cough up phlegm. Sitting up in a chair makes it ea

sier to

breathe and cough effectively

The aim of this leaflet is to provide advice on how to

clear phlegm from you lungs. It is important that phlegm does

not stay in your lungs as it can damage the lining of the

lungs and it may cause a chest infection.

Breathing techniques

Coughing only shifts phlegm from your upper airways.

If you have phlegm deep in your lungs it can be very difficult

to clear it with coughing. Try the following technique

instead:

2 – 3 big breaths

(To get air behind the phlegm)

4 – 5 relaxed breaths

2 – 3 big breaths

4 – 5 relaxed breaths

2 – 3 huffs

This is the type of breath you would use to steam up glass.

Perform with an open and relaxed mouth and throat.

Huffs move phlegm up through the lungs.

2 – 3 relaxed breaths

1 – 2 coughs

Repeat this sequence as often as needed until phlegm is

cleared, but always allow time for relaxed breathing in

between. Stop if you become tired or if your chest

becomes tight.

Perform this technique in the morning and whenever you

have phlegm in your lungs. If you have an infection

and more

phlegm you should increase how often you do the technique.

Exercise and physical activity

Exercise can be very effective at clearing phlegm from your

lungs as it makes you breathe deeply. Try any of the

following:

1. Going for a walk

2. Climbing stairs

3. Marching on the spot

4. Punching the air with your arms 10 times

5. Anything else that gets you out of breath

Fluids

If you are dehydrated the phlegm in your lungs becomes

sticky and can be difficult to cough up. You should drink

around 6 – 8 glasses of water a day. If you dislike drinking

water try adding diluting juice to flavour the water

.

Avoid repeated coughing

Repeated coughing can be tiring and can irritate the

airways.

Try to avoid coughing fits by sipping cold water, or swallowing

and then performing the breathing exercise to clear the phlegm.

Good morning to you all, yep Pete we've got some of that there sunshine, wall to wall at the moment and byootiful blue sky. Off out this after for a cruise alongside the canal on our mountain bikes. Briarwood, yaye! You made it to your first full month smokefree :-) You are now into week 5! Well done you :-)

Sin, have a lovely bike ride and enjoy the sunshine 8-)

Andi, you're not a saddo at all and have a jam packed life. If I was single and no family near, I would be away travelling to far off lands. Mind you, I wouldn't be able to have my chucks, puppy dog and hoggies then would I?! :-/ You asked yesterday where Agnes & Gertie live... They have their own hen house outside, usually running free all the time in the garden but hubby keeps pulling a face at them being on the nice grass part. So, we've just built them a run so they can have ther own little garden and we keep ours poop free :-) They can still pay out though whilst I'm there :-)

JillyGirl, enjoy your shopping and then your walk. Thans fr the info on breathing, really useful :-)

Pete, I'm going to do some gardening today, returfing and planting. Shall let you know how it goes. May have to have a glass of wine in the garden later so I can take in my days work! ;-)

Mrssunnyside, in with the Easter eggs... Pulling tongues and blowing raspberries to the spare tyre ;-) Happy chocolatey Easter!

Hey Betts, I have fat thumbs on my iPhone and when on my iPad I have a fast typing finger but a really old iPad that keeps on missing letters out and makes up the most weirdest words on my spellcheck :-/ I have to keep checking everything before I submit! :-)

Mickyt, enjoy your day. I hope you are getting up to something nice but keeping out of mischief :-)

Big waves to everyone else and Chrissie if you're up yet ;-)

Right, another cuppa before I crack on. Shall pop on later and share some Chocoate and love :D

Wow 3pm already! Doesn't time fly when you are having fun? :)

I'm delighted to say that I can now see the colour of my carpet again! I'm also proud to say that in order to achieve this, I had to actually "fix" the dyson, so who needs a man around! Actually it was just the bottom bit which covers the roller which had come loose - I just couldn't work out why it wasn't picking up properly - it is now! :D :D

Being a domestic goddess is actually hard work, I had to sit down for a rest because this is like doing a work out! It is funny though because I always thought it was the smoking which caused the dust in here - but as I haven't smoked for a few weeks now, and I have obviously cleaned several times in the meantime, where is the flipping dust coming from? I think I've got dust fairies, or maybe they are dust monkeys :) :)

monky profile image

in reply to ChrissieG

I've just acquired a Dyson. Not a new one I might add but it apparently needs a bit of fixing, mind you it comes from a smokers house, so I don't know, if it starts making my house smellier than my old vacuum does I might have to sling it.

I know what you mean about the Domestic Goddess stuff, I tried that last year, wasn't too keen to be honest. :D :D Well done you for spending a beautiful sunny afternoon cleaning.

in reply to monky

haha, it's looking as um......cluttered as ever. Mind you its not my rubbish, it's that hubby of mine who shoves everything on there. It currently has on it 2 meerkats out of the campervan, a selection of inner tubes that he's chucked out of his bag before we went out, and other various bits of junk, an electric staple gun, tape measure, a set of spanners or something and sat in the middle of it all is a nice vase of flowers that my mum gave me for our wedding anniversary. :o

What a stunningly beautiful day its been. It wasn't really cracking the flags, wish that cold nip in the air would go away but still had a lovely bike ride out this afternoon. Just over 20 miles there and back along the canal. Got as far as the garden centre. Hubby turned his bike round ( :D ), I powdered my nose and as I thought we ought to at least look like customers rather than 2 people availing ourselves of the conveniences I had a quick shufty round. Spotted a lovely garden bench that would look very nice in my back garden.

Didn't get off to the best start as hubby, ever the optimist only put on a thin top and no jacket so turned round and went back home to get changed. I carried on. He finally caught up with me on the canal, then realised he'd left his bag at home when he got changed so we had no money and nothing to drink or eat. So he went off on another detour to my daughters to cadge a bottle of water and some money. I haven't been on my mountain bike since last year. I love it, it's like sitting on an old comfy sofa, it weighs about 3 times more than my road bike but the gears shift like they're wrapped in silk, never a wrong move. To round off a lovely day when I got home the dog was sick in my slipper - nice :o

monky profile image
monkyAdministrator35 Months Winner in reply to

Sooooo, Sinfree, your hubby knows what am on about then :o :D :D

Well, did you get the garden bench then :o

As for your dog being sick in your slipper, was it still warm when you put your foot in it :o :D :D

in reply to monky

No I didn't get the bench, would have struggled up the hills a bit on my bike with a 5ft long garden bench strapped to my back. Am thinking about whether to go back for it though as it was very nice.

When we get home the dogs all run round with my slippers, but the Rottweiler had just had a drink, she drinks too fast so the next minute with my slipper in her mouth she projectile vomited the water she'd just drunk into my slipper. Yuk, sorry if you're just tucking into your barbecue, :D :D

sorry for the delay, there was one lady in front of me in the queue when I got there, then she started faffing around with paying, she literally counted every penny in her purse and then paid for the balance on her card - by the time she had finished there were 12 people in the queue! Obviously there was only one assistant on at that time - she said it had been a busy day and I thought she was going to burst into tears bless her!
